It's time to delete Metabook, Twitter and TikTok (and Reddit). Fuck it, social media is cancer - a thread.

Great episode

I’m sure they gathered the data for the benefit of society.

Robert Reich shows up again!

Lol Facebook, just look at this filth parade marching unabated through the collective minds of America’s stupidest, most reactionary morons

Mrs. Tilted deleted her Facebook account last night. All she did on there was follow shitty people from our hometown and make fun of their shitty opinions and shitty MLM grifting. 1 more down!

I legitimately have no idea who that is. I win, I guess?

Don’t know why but I went to YT to watch The Producers clip of “Springtime for Hitler”.

How has nobody done something like that for Donald Trump? Bunch of can-can girls goose-stepping while wearing ill-fitting suits and large red ties to go with a cotton candy blonde toupee would be something to laugh at.

If we run this awful simulation we’re in long enough eventually we’ll get this one:

Ruffalo Ruffalo Ruffalo Ruffalo Ruffalo Ruffalo Ruffalo Ruffalo

Btw, LinkedIn sucks too. I “deleted” it about a decade ago when I axed FB and still get random recruiters spamming me for a resume that hasn’t been updated since 2010.

Humble brag that you would have a resume that someone would be interested in.

You know you can change your settings to stop that from happening, right?

I mean I never check my LinkedIn account unless it’s to update my work experience. I also never receive messages from recruiters.

Not really. People there blindly spam anybody who leaves themselves open to recruiting. If I had a career in gay porn, primary schools in China would still be sending me messages offering interviews.

Recruiters seem to be incredibly lazy. Despite claiming to specialize in my industry, they constantly reach out about jobs that make absolutely no sense for me.

I am an exec recruiter, and I agree that most recruiters are lazy af. People’s generally poor opinion of them is a combination of:

  1. it being a commissioned sales job(these roles tend to be very transient and full of job hoppers)
  2. recruiting companies will hire recruiters straight out of school, so many recruiters are green not only in their supposed industry but in life as well
  3. they take a spray and pray approach to connecting with people on LinkedIn

I’m fortunate that they are so lazy, because it makes it easy for me to differentiate myself. I never send mass emails/messages, I always read someone’s entire profile before contacting them, and I operate with a philosophy of 100% transparency.

This won’t sound humble, but I’d place myself in the top 99th percentile of recruiters, and I don’t work hard at all.

This explains a lot

The thing that scares me is that it’s probably already too late to do anything about this.

The more that I read on the topic, the more I tend towards sharing your feeling.

The fact that the cost of entry to use online spaces includes “voluntary” acquiescence to surveillance grants enormous power to those in control of the data and the algorithms. Most of our fellow humans have little idea how much power they’ve ceded, and the people who now control that power know exactly how valuable it is. So, resistance is minimal, while those accumulating the power will act more and more ruthlessly to gain more, while possessing the most powerful tool in history to do so.

Lol, this interview itself is on YouTube. I just read the transcript, but sure if you click on YouTube and want to go down the rabbit hole of “technology is going to own us all and destroy the world” then YouTube will be happy to oblige…
