The odd thing about the trans bathroom panic is there wasn’t any gay people in bathrooms panic, or maybe there was and I don’t remember any legislation about it, but with trans people most of the time they don’t even insinuate that trans people themselves will be messing with people in bathrooms but allowing trans people allows sexual predators to mess with people in bathroom. I guess that was also carefully calibrated by the religious right as well because even if trans people could assuage people that they’re not going to be do anything, there’s a nebulous sexual predator boogyman that always could.
No they think, like Simp does, that all trans people are lying about being trans. Therefore all the trans gender females are just guys looking to cop a feel in a woman’s bathroom.
The entire issue is the assumption that all transgender people are sex offenders wearing a wig. Either to wrestle your daughter in the 8th grade district championship or join her in the locker room after. Thats what they imagine in their head. Not only religious fanatics, but also atheists philosophers.
It was more locker rooms than bathrooms, but it was definitely a thing.
which was funny because i was in sports in those days and the gayest shit ive ever seen in my life happened amongst “straight” boys in those lockerrooms (hazing) and the few gay kids were not the instigators

I’ve never actually met a transphobe who thinks that a trans person is lying, in the true sense of the word, about being trans. Most, if you pin them down, will concede that the trans person truly believes they are trans. They just chalk it up to “social contagion”, which is guess is the term du jour that they workshopped or some sort of delusion/mental illness. Many of them (prob not simp) do think that being truly trans is impossible, but they also would not say the explanation for that is “lying” per se.
Yeah, that was never a thing. Obviously that would have been a problematic solution for them for a variety of reasons. That was never proposed. More or less they just wanted gay people to fuck off and die. Or at least be locked up (probably was the justification for many sodomy laws, some of which are still on the books).
How about we start by banning any conversion therapy that isn’t approved by groups like the APA or AMA?
It’s just so depressing how these transparently bad faith tactics work. I’m old enough to remember when they started with the bathroom shit in the mid 2010s and people were like “no, you guys are fucking weirdos, fuck off”. So then they took a few years to look for a new wedge and came up with kids sports and lo and behold they found a credulous audience of “moderates” to lap that shit up. And now those same “moderates” are demanding we get mired in this bullshit debate rather than just saying “trans people deserve the same rights as anyone else” and leave it at that.
That’s the messaging you use to win this issue. You don’t parse every little argument the right makes because they don’t actually give a fuck about any of it, it’s just a game for them. Just pivot to something along the lines of “why are these guys targeting a handful of kids in school sports (or whatever the bullshit du jour is) instead of trying to solve the real problems we’re facing like (insert problems you want to talk about here)?” If they keep coming at you you can take shots at them like why do they want state-sanctioned genital inspections of children or pivot to prison reform/medical reform if they go down the gender reassignment surgeries for prisoners route.
Its semantics, and I don’t want to speak on behalf of Clovis, but the “trans people are lying about it” position mirrors the position that gay people are simply choosing to be gay.
The logic falls apart under the slightest scrutiny but that’s of course not the point. It’s a way to justify discrimination: it’s not a class of people deserving rights and protections but just people choosing to be freaks.

I guess there’s some code switching going on because in conversations with liberals it’s much more, ‘Nothing against trans people, but this will open the door to allow anyone (usually heterosexual men) into (usually women’s) bathrooms and nothing we can do to stop it because they can just claim to be trans’. Makes sense they wouldn’t feign minimal support of trans people in private though
It’s as if people don’t know what women’s restrooms are like. There are STALLS. No one’s squatting in the open or walking around naked
The issue is also easily resolved by gender neutral bathrooms
Edit: I also think it’s because THEY are the perveted ones who’d love to cop a sneak peek at women using the bathroom. It’s alwasy projection with them
I’m all for bans on conversion therapy, assuming you are talking about gay to straight conversion.
I’m also talking about conversion therapy for trans people that haven’t been medically approved. Get doctors to sign off on it, then fine. If not, it’s pseudo-science just like some RFK anti-vax bullshit. I don’t care what people think. I’m not going to start treating fake science as real science.

A lot of homosexual people (especially lesbians) were also arrested under laws that prohibited people from wearing clothing that “did not match their gender” (aka we don’t even need to catch the butch lesbian having sex with a woman, we can arrest her for wearing jeans instead of a skirt).

They’re questioning the things I just asked Rugby, but don’t have access to people like Rugby who will patiently answer them.
