I’m obviously being somewhat hyperbolic for effect, but this brainfuckery that has pervaded modern society is a real problem. Every kook now has a little corner of the internet where they can go to reinforce their beliefs with like-minded fucktards. If we keep letting these people have a material impact on decisions which affect the whole planet, our species is pretty doomed, and rightly so.

fuck if i was smart i would’ve realized that flaw in my argument

It is important that anyone who is affected by the democratic process have an equal voice in that process. A side effect of this (and democracy in general) is we may get a stupid or evil govt now and again.

Maybe the answer is we should have better guardrails to our democracy for these cases than some shitty document drafted 250 years ago by a bunch of slaveowners.

Sorry, another america-centric post, but you know what I mean.

I agree with @simplicitus.

Even leaving aside important philosophical concerns about the nature of democracy, the theoretical benefits of better government gained by excluding people based on any criteria you can make an argument for are greatly outweighed by the risk of a future Trump turning around and Whataboutting you when he disenfranchises minorities and the poor.

Yeah, as I said in my opening gambit ITT, I don’t think there is a practicable way of disenfranchising the “right” people without sliding into tyranny. My only point here is that, if there were, I would have absolutely no compunction about doing so in principle.

All adults should be able to vote, and we should consider lowering the voting age. Driving a vehicle is a bigger responsibility than voting.

Yeah, I mean it seems bizarre to lament low voter turnout (so frustrating that young people don’t vote!) and also argue for stricter limits on voting.

Charles Murray. Paging Charles Murray!

Erm, it’s mostly not the young ones I have a problem with.

The fundamental problem with adult intelligence testing is that it’s practically impossible to not construct a knowledge-based test, which is a particular problem if we consider the most simplified yet apt definition of intelligence should be ‘ability to learn’ and not ‘stuff you know’.

I totally get how easy it is for people much less smarter than myself lol to conflate the two though.

You weren’t a fan of this idea then?

Sure. You’d obviously exclude those and vocabulary questions.

Some of the questions present you with a paragraph or two of simple English and ask questions about what you can infer from what you’ve just read.

keep it up and he’ll get 3 votes

Category 5 encompasses all the other categories except category 1.

I take is at paranoid vs dumb/uninformed. Paranoia/fear is basically an emotion, and a very deep emotion, probably driving many seemingly “rational” processes. Also, many things that don’t think much at least do fight or flight.

IIRC, one of the dictionary definitions of intelligence is the ability to apply logic outside of interference from emotion.
