International Soccer: POCH

Didn’t see the game as I’m bitter about Canada being knocked out early. I’m not sure what play you are referring to here, I just saw this and checked reddit for the video and was surprised there were comments thinking it was handball.

I agree this should not be a handball, but you see so much borderline stuff called for pens in soccer that it’s kinda funny when literally holding the ball to the ground with your hand is play-on. And surely there were other places to put his hand to break his fall other than on the ball in the box.

“No advantage gained” is a crazy thing to say when the guy stops the ball that’s moving away from him, then gets up to control the possession.

Advantage gained isn’t in the rule book and no one was around if the ball kept going, he would have got up and controlled it with his feet.

Idk the rules I’m just quoting what you said. It’s more of a lol soccer than anything because as others have said I’ve seen dozens of penalties given when the ball is kicked and hits a guy’s arm with no intent, and this one is him actively grabbing and positioning the ball with his hand.

I’m certainly not going to argue whether that handball gets called or if it would be scandalous since lolsoccer but it does seem like a weird wrinkle to a weird sport when you blast the ball at a defender’s face who tries to matrix get out of the way of it but it glances off their bicep and its a free goal but grabbing the ball on the ground with your actual hand is fine.

And maybe it should be fine like I said I’m just a dummy that was wondering why the US (and maybe Mexico for all I know) was bringing a minor league squad to a championship game.

I believe Mexico had a B-level squad as well. As for the US team, this has some explanations:

Which era Flyers team does USA play like in your estimation?

USA? We’re like the 2010s Blackhawks! Champions, speedy offense, good goaltending with just one stick swinging maniac on D.

Note: I don’t watch much soccer and just caught a bit of the Hon Mex game where they had a bench clearing “brawl” over a throw in and while Mex was pretty bad with the clutch and grabbing and hard fouls, Hon was over the top with all that and at least one egregious spiking incident.

Dude just fell on the ball

Second goal was fine

We just got destroyed the entire game

If by fell you mean intentionally and awkwardly stabilized himself to an advantage by Shammgodding a ball, then yes he fell on the ball.

It’s just never a penalty. Anyone that has watched hundreds of games just easily hand waves this away

Should it be. Maybe

But it never is. And it wasn’t in the final.
