Can you ELI5 this for me? Why there? Is it like in the most important part of Memphis or something. This whole national guard in Memphis has been confusing to me. I get that the whole thing is bullshit, but the details of this one seem weirder.

The governor I guess wants to avoid any possible legal bullshit that might pop up if he actually does have the guard get involved in law enforcement, but he wants to be seen as supporting big daddy, so he sent in the troops and they’re basically just standing around with their hands in their pockets.

it’s weird that we have the national guard here and a big “task force” of feds (mostly ICE and FBI but some other agencies thrown in) and (so far) none of the wild shit they’re pulling in chicago.
they’re making claims of hundreds of criminals arrested but so far the only thing people have actually seen is a bunch of traffic stops for busted tail lights and shit like that.
