Did someone already pick “Cum Dumpster?” Or would that confuse his sheep?

Not even a good lie. (Edit: I shouldn’t have said her story is a lie. But she doesn’t understand how Social Security works.) Social Security benefits are indexed to inflation. Well, for now.

this ignorant layabout, leeching on the government dole, wasting money on a premium twitter subscription sincerely thinks “blue collar earnings” describes her paycheck

I get SSDI. Unusually the only time it goes up is when a Democrat is in office. I think it went up once in Trump’s first term. It went up every year Biden was POTUS.

That sucks. I didn’t realize disability was different. There is a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for retirement benefits. Benefits go up to account for inflation, about 5% on average over the last four years. Of course, we’re all screwed when the trust funds are depleted in 7 years or so. Maybe sanity is restored and we fix the problem but who knows.

Oh I get that cost of living letter every year. I think it was 9% Biden’s first year.

has someone calculated where the income cap would need to move to cover the shortfall? Does it need to be taken off completely. It’s about $175k I think now. It’s also indexed for inflation.

or pull it at a lower rate for all income above the 175k?

Some older sources say eliminating the cap would be enough but it doesn’t look like there’s agreement on that anymore. Most proposals are a mix of increasing the cap and the payroll tax rate plus various schemes that amount to benefit cuts. It’s fixable but it will be a fight. Meanwhile, the vultures are circling.

I like this one. Only problem is we are going to end up with even less qualified leos which might be bad or might be good.

“I think this is the most dangerous period since before world war two. There’s certain similarities right now to the 30s,” he said.

“[Then president] Herbert Hoover signed the Smoot-Hawley tariff bill in 1930, widely believed by historians and economists to have taken the depression worldwide. Those who were totally anxious to stay out of all of what was going on in Europe were called ‘America First’. Sound familiar?

“So what do we have today? North Korea, China, Russia, Iran and Iran’s proxies. They’re very different kinds of countries, but they have one thing in common: They hate us.”

Obviously fuck McConnell and yeah could not imagine a more appropriate use of the hot dog meme.

But it’s also just astounding to me how quickly we’ve gotten here. Like we’re talking about Mitch fucking McConnell, the #1 super villain of the previous era, being the last voice of reason (occasionally) on the Republican side. Basically everyone else is now worse than him! That’s completely nuts and super ominous and I still can’t quite wrap my head around how much trouble we’re in.
