Deplorables are confirmed furious about this, so it must be a great idea.
And yea Dewine has a better chance in a Democratic primary here than a Republican one. The deplorables despise him.

It seems obvious to me that a sitting governor has lawyers that would know better than me, but it really seems like there is going to be a ton of legal challenges to someone creating a lottery to gift tax dollars to some sub-set of the population. Even radio contests have to let you enter for free I think. Maybe they aren’t using tax dollars, I admittedly haven’t looked that closely into it.
Counterpoint: getting the vaccine is free.
Yep, but there are still people who presumably cannot legitimately get the vaccine due to some medical condition or (lol) religious objection. I’d assume that any government giveaway would need to be inclusive, though I wish that was not the case here ldo.
I would hope there’s some way for those with a immune system issues to opt-in online or something.
They’re using stimulus funds. I mean yeah, ultimately that’s tax dollars I suppose although not really. Also I would bet that he’s had attorneys look at this before announcing it and he feels it’s allowable.
Yeah IANAL and I’d assume a governor is smart enough to consult one. I’m just going to be totally not surprised when a lawsuit from some Lin Wood wannabe prompts an emergency injunction to keep this from happening.
Donald Trump just made us foot the collective bill for 4 years of wildly overpriced hotels and round the clock golf cart rentals, I think we’re good.
I think you mean “luxury hotels”. You know it’s good because Donnie Dumb Dumb wouldn’t put his name on just anything,
How does this lottery work? It said something about voter rolls. So do they draw a name and then have to check to see if that person was vaccinated? Going to be extra awesome if so and we get to watch several deplorables realize they could have had a cool million if not for their own stupidity.
That would be fucking amazing, but no, I think they’re drawing basically from the intersection of both databases. And if you’re not registered to vote then there is a link to register for the drawing if you’re vaccinated. I think basically the reason they are not just drawing from the vaccination list is because maybe that doesn’t guarantee the person is a state resident? Not completely sure.
This is actually an incredible idea
They should do the drawing exactly that way live on Cash Explosion.
Just put the money on a table in the middle of the room. Once they say they didn’t get vaxed, trapdoor opens.
For those of you in Ohio looking forward to the lottery moniez, you now have to register - you aren’t automatically enrolled.
Register here:
(It says coming May 18th, but doesn’t seem to be working yet.)
That’s unfortunate. I was really hoping that they would just announce live something like “If Doug Stevenson of Lebanon, Ohio has been vaccinated, he has won a million dollars!” and have the big story be how he was a deplorable anti-vaxxer whose idiocy cost him a million bucks.
Making the kid winners go to Ohio State seems a bit cheap imo. They could at least spring for Oberlin.
Obviously this is the right thing to do so they won’t.
