It seems weird they’re suing? For some reason I assumed they just started garnishing wages and confiscating shit.
That’s for poors, duh. Also Stone has no wages.
When normal people don’t pay taxes, they get a letter “you owe xxx,” after which the unpleasant shit starts automatically. This Stone BS is literally a Dave Chappelle skit.

Well, you tell me. Are they actually pursuing both? I’ve only seen what looks like civil suit.
I have no clue how this stuff works, but in other situations it seems that the criminal prosecution plays out first.
The is both civil and criminal liability for tax evasion.
I don’t know much about tax evasion law, but i suspect criminal requires proving intent, while civil covers any errors. I suspect criminal charges can be brought if the evidence shows that the underpayment was willful and not simply mistaken. It’s likely easier to file civil first and obtain additional evidence via legal process. Also, standard of proof is preponderance of the evidence vs beyond reasonable doubt.

The NYT is hilariously awful at reporting on this stuff. Anyone with a clue reads the headline and instantly wonders “why are there no criminal charges,” yet that is not answered in the article.
Oh good, the universe is going to tease me with the prospect of Stone getting got only to pull the football away at the last second.
