Golf: No Bones, just Bonesaws

Played well first time around then hit multiple balls from the middle tees 2nd time through. Working on meshing 3 things together, feel like I’m close but I’m lost as fuck, haha. Wrist hinge is going well, hitting it a little further and higher. Trying to swing waay slower, like 50-70% of normal. Also trying to figure out my hip/shoulder turn. I feel if I go back too far I yank them straight left, not enough I slice it. Tough to find that happy medium. In addition to all this, when I do swing slower I feel like I have to turn thru the ball slower, if my body turns too fast it also leads to a straight left yank. Any of this make sense??? Lol golf!

Continuing with the same swing thought that I mentioned in my last post. Best round I’ve posted in years, amazing what can happen if you don’t spray every other tee shot out of bounds. I was once a 10 HC and this kind of round would have been pretty normal but in 2016 or 2017 I basically lost the ability to hit a golf ball and it’s been a struggle.

Had an amazing lesson tonight. Great swing path numbers, hitting draws over and over, smash factor excellent, distance great. I’ve made a few tweaks lately that seem to be paying off and that simulator at my lesson gives me the feedback I need to improve.

Just been getting lessons every 2-3 weeks and practice a ton in the meantime whatever he tells me to do. We got my hand action working finally (after like a year of not being able to get my clubface square) and were gonna work on swing path tonight, but I was like “nah dude I’ve been working on that too” and proceeded to smash like 25 in a row absolutely perfectly with excellent numbers. It was really cool seeing my instructor get excited, I feel like I’ve been disappointing him for a while in how slow my progress has been.

now to just do this on the course and I’ll be set. low 80’s by this time next year, hopefully.

You should invest in a decent set of clubs and get properly fitted for them. You legit sound like a natural.

Thank you, that made my day honestly. But really I am not. I am just so happy right now because I’ve been working really god damn hard on my golf this summer. There’s been nothing else to do and it gets my mind off how crazy the world is for 4-5 hours.

I came into this coming up on 2 years now with a bunch of ingrained habits and old muscle memory from a decade of baseball. It felt physically impossible for me to get my wrists around to square the club face at impact. In fact I was going the other way, more open. It’s taken me this entire summer to get that motion consistently down so my club face is slightly closed at impact (to start the ball out a little left for my fade). Basically everything I’ve been doing well lately has been countless hours of practice. So I don’t really feel like a natural because I seem to work so much harder than my friends do who are really good at the game but I am still a shank machine in rounds sometimes.

I have a good set of clubs. I have ping g700 irons with graphite shafts. love my clubs and put a lot of thought into buying them.

but yea my driver I probably do need a fitting. But since I am still new and my swing is changing every week, I feel like any fitting I get now will be outdated in 2 years, because I plan on continuing to work at this until I’m shooting in the 70s, I dont care if it takes my entire life.

That’s how hopelessly addicted I am to this stupid friggin game. I don’t even really enjoy it half the time, but I don’t think I could live without it. The joyful moments are worth the terrible and frustrating ones.

Ok last I read you were using a Strata starter set. Good to hear on the iron front!

I’ve played since I was in middle school, and have only played sparingly the last decade or so (because it’s so humid and miserable in the summer). I shot in the mid 80s when I played regularly in my teens. I’ve been going to the range most days this year just to get outside and get active, and I’ve shot rounds 96, 99, 100 and a +8 38 today at a little 9 hole executive course. Maybe natural isn’t the right word, but you’re clearly improving and are striking the ball consistently. I’m topping shots, slicing occasionally, hitting very few FIR, but having very, very few 3 putts and can save my rounds from total disaster that way.

When you’re hitting the ball well and giving yourself a chance to score, you can play this game for decades and enjoy yourself. It’s a great tool for networking and business as well. Keep at it, keep taking lessons and keep playing as much as you can.

There is nothing better than “working” from home on day 1 of the US Open. At least in the old days of carnage. Stoked for tomorrow. Hopefully the course plays tough this year.

I’m the same way, I have not had many 3 putts this summer. I think it has been a few rounds. But i’m not 1 putting often enough so I’m working on that too.

There’s always something to work on. That’s why i dont understand people who dont really practice but seem to take the game very seriously.

Lol you made me think today was Thursday

Just warning you so you can get your affairs in order. I plan to put in triple my normal workload today to clear up Thursday and Friday. Gonna be a rough 3 hours, but the payoff will be worth it.

My instructor told me the greenskeeper at winged foot wants the winning score to be +8. So it’s gonna be a bloodbath

Maybe Phil can relive his past glory there

I know lots of people feel this way about Masters Week but my favorite golfing event of the year is the US Open, especially when it’s a bloodbath and you get these pros bitching about fast greens and long rough. Yeah things can get away from you sometimes if the weather doesn’t cooperate but the weather has been ideal in this area the past month so no excuses now. Hopefully the USGA doesn’t fuck it up. I’ve already blocked off my work schedule for tomorrow so no one bothers me.

I really like the idea of only playing the US Opens at public tracks but then you wouldn’t get to see courses like this or Oakmont or Shinnecock.

Another Hot take: the US Open should never be played at Pebble ever again.

On a personal golfing note I got the stitches out of the top my finger and now only have 3/4 of a nail on my left index finger but the doctor said I wouldn’t injure it more if I play, so I’ve already told the wife to not expect anything out of me for the rest of the week. Have 8am tee times fri/sat/sun then will be glued to the action after that.

This is such a fun US Open course. I wish all of the majors would tailor the courses to shoot for even par as the winning score. Like, why not let the rough grow out another 5-6” in preparation for Masters week or move some tee boxes around to force irons off the tee or something.

Maybe PGA they let people shoot low scores, that always feels like the dumbest major of the year anyway.

Lol the pros have been bitching all season about the possibility of lost balls in the rough because there’s no crowds to spot them or trample it down.

Welcome to our world, bitches!

Fuck i’m getting no work done today.

I have so many wagers on Tiger. Every book was offering a Tiger special. I think I need him to be in the Top 20 on day 1, then miss the cut. Lol

I get so conflicted on tiger. I’m a huge fan of his golf - he’s so exciting, and his devotion and approach to the game is inspiring to me. How hard he works and practices is something I try to bring into my own game. I get inspired by how he takes care of his body and plays through injuries (I am frequently injured).

But he is such a piece of crap person IRL. Huge trumpie too.

Speith has two doubles and is still only +2. His cards are just nuts.

I am not so sure on the trumpie part. Everything I have read says he is basically apolitical. It’s obvious privilege to be so but I would be pretty surprised if he was an active trump supporter.
