Golf: No Bones, just Bonesaws

I do exactly the same and my practice strokes are all super solid. But once the ball gets in front me I guess I have commitment issues that either causes me to chunk or blade it.

Like I practiced with my wife the other day. She’s only done some range sessions and some short game sessions this year and struck every chip/pitch perfectly. We both have the day off tomorrow so I’m sure she’ll fire her standard 45 while I can shoot anywhere from 36 to 50 haha.

Solid round at the homestead after yesterday’s disaster.

Oh yeah, didn’t post about yesterday’s disaster.

Yesterday was a disaster.

Justin Thomas is gonna miraculously birdie the last 2 holes he’s played. He and Koepka in a battle down the stretch!

With today’s win JT becomes the third-youngest ever to reach 13 wins, behind only Jack and Tiger.

yeah… I saw that on the broadcast. that’s such an achievement wow

his short game on the last few holes was unreal… his pitch on 16* to within 3 or 4 feet, after driving it in the trees, then hitting a branch on his 2nd shot… and later, 2 chips from right around the greens on 17 and 18 were also tap-in putts.

he’s brilliant from that range. shows what short-game wizardry can do for one’s game. deserved World #1

*you prolly saw it, but if not seek it out. he had some awkward number to the green, no full-swing-type understanding of what club to generally use, and it almost looked like he just let them club drop via gravity once at the top of his backswing, instead of the standard effort to get club-head speed

pure art… the best surgeons don’t know that precision

After tropical storm Isiahasiahs blew through I went up and hit into the nets. Saw a guy walk up with his cart and tee off. I hit for another 20min and decided, why not just play??!? Instead of going back and grabbing my gear I just teed off, 5 clubs, 5 balls and no putter! Also, I was 5 beers deep. It’s ok, I’m on vacation!!!

Played ok, 1 bird, 1 par, 1 bogey and 6 ‘others’. Bird and par were done with just my 4h. My only regret was not going around again but tomorrow’s another day. Golf!!!

Been hitting balls at the range and chipping area most days to get outside and get some sun. Decided to play today (since it was in the 70s) for the second time this year and carded a 50/46 with only 32 putts and one 3 putt. I played a lot when I was younger, but haven’t played more than 1-2x a year for the better part of a decade. First time I’ve broken 100 in a long time. Was consistently in the mid 80s in my youth. If I lived in San Diego I’d play every damn day.

Driver was a total mess, hard slice all day. Wide open course but still had to 5i out from trouble frequently. Damn shame, wedges and putter were on fire!! Drilled 6 or 7 from 15-25ft. Walking 18 tomorrow and Friday then hope to play with my folks Saturday.

I sympathize, went to play a round sunday on a course with narrow fairways and trouble right on every hole. At the range before I was slicing my fucking 9 iron and I knew I was in for a long day.

I was.

I lived in SD for 15 years. And I played/practiced nearly every day. It was glorious.

We usually have temps from 95-105 with insane humidity (think 115 heat index) from May-Sep. I went out this afternoon to hit 2 buckets while it was mid 80s. I came back drenched in sweat because of the humidity.

We’ve gone to San Diego a handful of times for vacation. I would pay the obscene cost of living for year round 72 and sunny.

It was. And I did.

Played 9 with the wife the other day. She hasn’t played since last year and only went to the range like twice. I was able to best her with a 43 after being 1 under thru 5 then doubling the remaining 4. She had a constant bogey every hole with a double on the 3rd for a 46. Not bad for basically not picking up a club for a year. Just got natural talent.

In other golf-related news, if you’re a professional player, I hope your game is tight over the next few months. Could be historically life changing for you.

Is that a par SIX? How many yards?

Yes, 623yds from the whites. Think it’s 660ish from the tips, lol. Just realized it was my only par of the day, haha. And I supersliced my drive like 170yds into a fairway bunker I didn’t know existed. Hit a beautiful 7i out of it onto the fairway, then a nice 5w slightly right to the first cut. 7i 10yds short of the green, chipped it close and nailed the 5fter. Easy game

I am close to giving up. Went to the range today and shanked every ball.

I shot a 95 the other day which wasn’t too too terrible considering I was slicing every drive and could barely get the ball off the ground. But it’s just so frustrating. I feel like I’m getting worse and I’m practicing 4x a week and taking lessons 2x a week. Basically zero days without golf.

So yea I went to the range today not even to practice, just to get my mind off some things. I shanked nearly every shot. I mean brutal shanks, not just pushes or pulls. Like straight up whiffs. I can’t get my wrists and club face around, can’t make clean contact, cant stop coming way over the top, my clubhead speed is abysmal. Maybe if I take a few weeks off things will improve.

I’m obviously not in the right mental place for golf but I can’t even enjoy it anymore. It’s just stressful and disappointing. The most annoying part is I have a really really good short game - the best by far of all my friends and I play with some 5-7 handicaps. Inside 100 yards i am deadly. But getting to inside 100 yards… i just cant do it. I lose so many strokes.
