Round 2, Block 1 justifications:
-
Scooby Doo vs. The Pink Panther-Man, I don’t care about this whole, movie vs. TV show fradulent theme that’s going around at all. I love the Pink Panther theme (not whatever this is), and Scooby Doo’s theme is a baby song, so Pink Panther will always take the cake even if every single cartoon has the exact same music played over and over. It’s also bizarre that Pink Panther had a laugh track, which takes it up a notch for me, because that is so weird.
-
The Twilight Zone vs. Better Call Saul-The anger of BCS being here is misplaced, but you all got what you wanted by it being smoked in this round. It had no chance vs. The Twilight Zone, even though the video posted isn’t any kind of main title that ever aired for the show. It’s a mash up of various main titles throughout its run, which they altered from time to time. Every incantation of The Twilight Zone theme easily beats BCS, and this match up is probably the worst Jimmy McGill has felt since his brother didn’t think he could be a lawyer.
-
Cheers vs. Peter Gunn-Playing that Cheers song version just reminds me how much I hate the Cheers theme song. Throw in some transphobia in the extended version and it makes me hate it that much more. The Peter Gunn theme is good, but taste outweighs in the match up, and that’s why it wins for me. It’s not really better than the Cheers theme, but I actively hate the Cheers theme…so there.
-
Miami Vice vs. Cops-Sorry but Miami Vice takes it for me. I’m a huge reggae fan, but that song is an irritant because of the Cops show.
-
NFL on FOX vs. WKRP in Cincinnati-This is like a replay of Cheers vs. Peter Gunn, except WKRP’s theme is up against a really good one. I can’t stand the WKRP theme at all. It’s Andy Travis’s theme song and his feathered hair, too tight jeans, partially bumpkin accent, cowboy boots, and bland character are all brought into perfect focus with this song. Imagine this show was built around this actor and character, and then realize they threw all that in the trash with all the characters they built around him that make the show work. I wonder if you removed him from the show if anyone would notice.
-
The X-Files vs. Gilligan’s Island-How is The X-Files winning this? It’s literally a few repetitive notes played over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Maybe Gilligan’s Island would be crushing with the ‘And the rest’ version. We’ll never know…
-
Batman vs. The Dukes of Hazzard-Batman is repetitive and catchy and that will be its downfall based on how voting is going. I could have sworn there was a better sung version of The Dukes of Hazzard theme, but after further research I couldn’t find any evidence of that. The first line of the song is hideously sung and I have to look at the confederate flag. I’m over it even though it’s currently in the lead. I’ll likely continue voting against it anywhere it shows up.
-
Law & Order vs. The Beverly Hillbillies-King of TV themes Mike Post struck ‘gold’ again with the Law & Order theme. By then, he was playing with cheesy keyboards, like they fell out of the St. Elsewhere snow globe into his studio after getting mugged by a bad guy on Hill Street Blues (haven’t seen the show I have no idea). I get the feeling he found a loop of something and was like, let me just put in every instrument known to man in this song in a part that could be played by any instrument and then see what Dick Wolf likes, since he’s never had a successful TV show. That’s how we get what I think is supposed to be a clarinet at some point in that song. He had to go full Mike Post on that guitar, which makes no sense based on the song, but that’s Mike Post for you which just heightens the goofiness of the song. Just imagine him with long hair getting down. I have no idea what Mike Post looks like, but he plays guitar like he’d proudly wear a mullet. The Beverly Hillbillies theme is the number 2 theme of all time and it’s a shame there is any possibility a Mike Post dumpster fire that he phoned in from across the street because he didn’t want anyone to know where the call came from is going to take it down. Those guitars licks man…lol.
