That colouring is a bit off fwiw. Looks different in rl.

I’ve never had success with broccoli which is embarrassing because apparently it’s easy but look at that!

This was the best broccoli I have ever tasted. I waited until the very last second to harvest and wash it. I had to be thorough with washing though due to all the earwigs but I take it as a compliment that they liked it so much! It’s nice knowing I’m not eating a bunch of poisons too.

Yes. I have 2. They do break things down quicker but I am not vigilant in turning it everyday so I am unsure of maximum efficiency.

I also have 2 normal bins and 2 piles that are unencumbered by anything. Not using poisons means a reasonable amount of weed pulling, especially if I am slack and let it get away from me.

Oh yes if you think they’re rodent proof they’re not. As I once was emptying one and a live mouse dropped out and scared the bejebus out of me!

One thing I really like about growing my own food is that I can give a lot of my produce to people who I know are struggling and there’s no shame or embarrassment coming from it. You’re just sharing an abundant harvest and it feels good for everyone.

Nice! I started growing gourmet mushrooms with plan to sell them at farmer’s market type places but then COVID hit and I haven’t been motivated. I was going to ask about your indoor set up to do greens over the winter but now my garden will be ready soon so not sure I’ll start anything this spring.

Those might need more humidity or airflow imo.

Yea.They are leggy and that’s usually airflow issue.

I’m trying jalapenos and habaneros this year, just starting them from seed. I’m not doing anything other than seed starting formula and a seed tray with top in a bright window, we’ll see how it goes, I didn’t realize they could be some troublesome. Wild how much some of this stuff pops up, I’ve already got some lettuce and some california poppies sprouting from less than a week. Also have some cauliflower going nicely, this will be my last year trying it if I don’t get any - I’m zone 5 which I would think is cauliflower friendly, but it still seems to get too hot too fast for it. Started the seeds even earlier this year.

I never got off my butt to build a cold frame this winter. I’ve got random plastic bits I use as a poor man’s cold frame. It’ll be pretty nice here over the next week so I think I might get some lettuce and argula going outside.

I bought some new canna and dahlia bulbs. I have a ton from the prior owner (I dig them up every year), but they’re all the same colors, glad to get some variety. I even started a bunch of dahlias from seed last year (mixed packet of colors), all of them but one were eaten by the rabbits, and that one was the same color as all the old ones.

gophers have invaded my lawn. I’ve studied caddy shack obviously, but I don’t have access to dynamite. Tips?

not sure where you live, and nothing against apples (they are great), but harvesting your own stone fruit is the greatest thing ever.

plums are great, though probably only european plums. also look into cherries.

@JohnnyTruant can you help identify this deficiency?

Zinc? Molybdenum?

it was probably everything. i fed it with liquid plant food for the past two days, and it’s looking a lot greener.
