It’s not trendiness. They’re trying to figure out if the candidate has a perspective on the city similar to their own. Its a stupid question and they’re fishing for inauthentic answers, but given all that he gave the worst answer.
Also, familiarity with transit in NY is an actual important aspect of that job. You dont want people that say “oh I don’t know my helicopter takes me to work each day” to be mayor.

I get it, but it’s just very hilariously New York to have a favorite subway station.
Also, I think MTA is run by the state for some reason, so the mayor’s role is less than you’d think.

After 20 years of voluntary disenfranchisement, I finally got to vote in my first primary! With the new voting process I got to make up a lot of lost ground - as I now get to vote for up to five candidates who have no chance.
