Food Madness Thunderdome

Yes

You don’t have to have those spices. The best curry I ever made (from an authentic Bangladeshi recipe) had fresh chillis and turmeric on top of the usual base.

Ramen takes a lot of heat in America because it’s thought of as instant noodles but that’s not the case at all. Hand-pulled ramen noodles with the proper mix of vegetables, meat and spices beat any curry I’ve ever had.

Basically, hand pulled noodles >> curry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Instant noodles

You should probably try real ramen instead of basing your vote on Cup 'o Noodles…

I live in a food mecca, but isn’t it the case that real ramen is widely available now?

probably not as wide spread as what I like to call Devil’s Pee or Pho, but it should available in most major cities, I mean Denver had a ramen shop for a while.

This is a tough one. These are two of my favorite foods

Agree. I went for curry but it’s close. Totally understand going the other way. I was really sad when I couldn’t find good curry in Austin for 6 months.

Yeah for sure. I’ve tried to go with practicality as one of my deciding factors and in this case I eat Indian curry somewhat frequently, both at restaurants and made at home, whereas I almost never eat ramen, either the instant versions nor high-quality restaurant stuff. The best ramen I’ve had is transcendant (@boredsocial do you ever eat at Ramen Tatsuya? I have a friend in Austin who says it’s on par with food in Japan, it’s certainly the best I’ve had) but I basically live without it now so isn’t much of a stretch to continue doing so.

No I haven’t. There are a ridiculous number of great Ramen places in Austin though. Your friends recommendation is noted and I’ll be trying it soonish.

Please report back when you do. Haven’t been to Austin in a while but my foodie friend who we traveled with our first time there took us to this place. On a subsequent visit wife and I went to their other location because we enjoyed it so much the first time. Recently I was talking with the friend mentioned above and couldn’t think of the name of the restaurant but he identified it immediately, and given that he spent a year in Japan I trust his take.

Picked candy because Sahsimi is not Sushi so I can still enjoy both my favorite seafood and candy.

Wrong. No angle shooting.

Some of these choices are really painful. Bacon might be harder because it’s in so many items that I end up having it more often but I voted for cakes/pies for now since I love my sweets…idk might change my vote at some point.

cakes and pies lumped together? Horrible. Might as well put bacon and chicken breast together.

Bacon makes so many good things better, but I’ll be goddamned if I’m giving up butter tarts and cheesecake.

If bacon wins this round, it could go all the way.
