Fall LC thread

Fewer Americans died, but bombing tonnage increased in '72.

Fair point, although that was part of a secret plan to end the war. The trajectory of American involvement was certainly on the downslope by 1971.

Or you have unfounded confidence in the intent and likely results of the secret bombing campaign.

Do I? Me using the phrase “secret plan to end the war” should set off some irony sensors.

Highly recommend “No Good Men Among the Living”

same with terrible leaders as men so they aren’t sexist, check mate libtard

wait till you hear about Iraq or that one time they just dropped a palette of massive amounts of cash that pretty much all ended up in the wrong hands.

The WaPo articles are devastating. How powerful entrenched forces are. Inertia is a bitch. No wonder people check out of politics or fall for fools gold.

Articles like that are why I still think WaPo is worth supporting. Just really wish they would fire Kessler the fact-check slappy.

And 90% of their editorial writers.

And then give headline-writing training.

And maybe call off their crusade against Warren.

I didn’t watch the video because lol utoobz, but seeing that the researcher is George Church, uh, it’s his hubris.

Watchmen update: still insultingly stupid and lazy. Finale next week; I’m sure it’ll all come together like a magic eye thingy and actually be brilliant.

I haven’t watched it yet as I’m waiting for it to finish but you are in the extreme minority. It’s getting drooling rapid rave reviews across the board. It’s on literally every top 10 of 2019 list I’ve seen. Every minority critic I follow is calling it a masterpiece.

Me reading the watchmen reviews is how I felt when I watched Last Jedi and then read the reviews. I was legit confused by how they could watch that and then write what they did. Same thing with watchmen but not as bad. But I was like hey this is just another dumb Lindelof show. Except without the legit heartfelt emotional moments you got in Lost. I don’t feel attached to any of the characters, at all. Closest thing I got was the mirror guy episode. Laurie is amusing but I don’t care about her. Everyone else is a cipher. Nothing there.

The worst takes of the 2010’s

The passage of time can be marked in many ways. Including by the worst posts. What follows is a list of articles, curated by the staff of The Outline, that shows just how warped our brains got in the last 10 years. We are sorry.

Oh man I love terrible Jonathan Chait takes (aka Jonathan Chait takes) and somehow I missed that one.

It must have been someone here, I’m assuming Trolly, that first introduced me to DaShareZone and I’ve since sent it to several people. Not sure why I find it so hilarious but they’re fucking great

I’m reading Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all time. I’ve just read the top 50 so far and basically every album came out between 1965 and 1975. Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchel, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, The Ramones, Stones, The Who, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Velvet Underground, The Clash, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, The Eagles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Patti Smith, and a whole bunch more all made their best – and maybe THE best – music all within one decade. Like WTF? Why was this the golden age of music?
