Ah understandable. I usually do it out in the desert with a ton of friends, music, and beautiful women so I stay entertained and never want it to end lol. The last few hours of afterglow might be my favorite part.
Another tidbit from the book I’m reading - everyone who isn’t white at some point gets called the n-word - Indians, Mexicans, Hawaiians, Pilipinos, Inuits, Chinese. It does not matter - if the US needs to gin up support to fight or oppress you, you get the n-word.
The US: “We need to rule the Philippines now that we liberated them from Spain, all these disparate tribes can’t come together to rule themselves.”
(All the tribes attack the US force in unison)
US: “See - they’re barbarians. This proves they can’t govern themselves.”
Completely understand where you’re coming from. The mental health thread hasn’t been bumped in a while but lots of people have discussed similar feelings, to varying degrees of severity.
I did explicitly make the point that deconversion from hardcore sects is a completely different thing. That was actually the whole point that I was trying to make!
Firstly it regards direct privatisation. Most of the NHS is conducted in house, but the further into the 21st century you go the more you find services which have been peeled off and bids invited from private companies. Core functions have, however, always been protected. In the current UK/US trade negotiations the US side has been demanding that these core NHS services be opened up for tender in the same way, with US companies given the right to sue if they feel the procurement system has been less than fair to them.
Secondly it refers to the NHS being used more generally as a bargaining chip for trade benefits in other areas. Due to its size and power the NHS currently has a competitive advantage over the drug companies it negotiates prices with. The UK also has a patenting system that makes it quicker and easier to develop and procure generics. Again the US wants these things to be up for sale in any future trade agreement.
Can’t wait for my Mom to ask me if it’s true that this is all the rage in LA. Yes mom, it’s called “organic bleaching” and we all swear by it. You should try it!
Nope. I don’t know where I am on this pyramid thing being discussed itt but I have adopted a don’t give a fuck attitude at work when it comes to how I’m perceived, promotions, company politics etc. Thats not to say that I slack off completely and don’t do my job I just go in for 8 hours, handle my business, leave and don’t think about work when I’m away from it. If some crazy shit happens or something goes wrong I don’t worry about it, I try to fix it and if that isn’t possible then I just accept it and move on.
For me, work stress is about 90% correlated to my boss. Mellow boss = no stress. Bad boss is the absolute worst.
I actually like deadline stress and fixing bugs stress. In fact my last job before the trip was stressful because I had none of that. I wasn’t feeling useful and I wasn’t challenged.
I’m about 100% happier and more productive when I have this kind of stress, especially when it leads me to focus for 6-10 hours.
Like I’ll let an unanswered email from a nonpaying client stress me for days, but doing research and writing on a deadline feels like a good use of my time. The stress is more like being in the heat of a competition as opposed to being powerless, which is mucho bad stress.
