Yes he bet on his having actual expertise and he lost. Don’t do crime without understanding the legal environment kids. The key to being a successful (free!) criminal is knowing what law enforcement priorities are and avoiding those like the plague. Obviously right now the money laundering cops (who are stretched way way out and can’t investigate 1% of the total money laundering going on IRL) are going to be actively making time to catch the Venezuelans.
“The reason for this decision is that the evidence has weakened considerably due to the long period of time that has elapsed since the events in question.”
The prosecutors said the decision had been taken after seven witnesses in the case had been interviewed.
Fuckin billionaires.
Exoneration = rape + time
The French have a solar furnace that generates 3500 deg C. (If you all didn’t take the link, Gate’s “breakthrough” technology generates temperatures “above 1000 deg C”.)
The much much hotter French furnace went into service in 1970!
Fuckin socialists!
I’m sure it’s great that this project has improved tracking capability some incremental amount (maybe), but not that big a breakthrough.
Lolol that’s the PR department shoving something out because of the Epstein buzz lately.
In 2014, a small University in Indiana, with a DoE grant, built a high-tech solar furnace that generates 1600 deg C. (The 3000 in this case is F)
Fuckin college kids!
Uzbekistan built a 3000 deg C solar furnace in 1981.
Fuckin commies!
But did they use AI? Look around!
Imagine stanning for Bill Gates in 2019.
I can’t find any 1000 deg C solar furnaces built by high school students yet. I’m sure they could do it, but it is dangerous. I know a guy who worked at one of these projects and during construction they had an area they called “the zone of death”. One time the zone moved and hit and melted a bobcat (the construction equipment, not the animal). If you walked into the zone you’d just catch on fire immediately.
Ok what’s going on here?
I literally spat up some coffee when I saw that the writer of that article quoted “Rate my Professors.” Amazing.
That is the first time I can remember reading an actual Bloomberg article - are they all that good?
Probably something similar to this:
Yes. Bloomberg is different than other news outlets in that people use the information they read on it to make bets for sizable chunks of money and they pay for access. Watch Bloomberg TV some time… paint drying is more interesting. At the same time it’s truly news and real important news is often boring af.
I’m a subscriber and grade other news outlets accuracy by how far off from Bloomberg they are. Bloomberg is basically the console log of global financial news. It’s substantially more accurate and less biased than the competition as a result.
Can’t wait for Swalwell to release a transcript proving it was a perfect fart
I think this list of examples misses the point a bit. Making things extremely hot is not the end goal here. The beneficial thing is finding ways to replace carbon-intensive processes with alternative sources. Now, there’s no proof that this particular company has accomplished that, and it would be foolish to take a media summary of their marketing materials as evidence of anything in particular. But it’s comforting to know that there’s a company that has gotten some resources from a billionaire and will lose all their money if they can’t find a way to accomplish that goal at commercial scale in short order. The French have been sitting on their world-beating 3500 degree solar furnace for almost 50 years, and don’t seem to have done anything especially significant with it.
It’s a research center.
The small University that developed a hotter solar furnace is working on making products that would be useful commercially.
So, basically, public resources were used to develop technology to the point where they might be profitable and then investors try to bring products to market. Like, that’s so common it’s really really silly to Tweet like Yglasias and Simplicitus and you have done as if Gates has come up with some world saving breakthrough - way to go billionaires!!!
And that’s not to mention that the same technology has also been used commercially to generate electricity for at least 40 years since Boeing built Solar one.
In other amazing news, thanks to Richard Branson, humans have finally gone into space.
And lol at that being the point. Neither you nor Yglasias, nor Simplicitus did anything other than take it as that being some big scientific achievement because Gates is so super awesome.
“THIS SURE SEEMS LIKE A HUGE, INCREDIBLY PROMISING SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH!!!”
I’m not assuming it’s a breakthrough. That’s not how I read news. I think it’s interesting and is likely a promising AI application. The question with all of these things is whether they can be done at scale. I also don’t think bill gates is a genius, but I believe he double checks the numbers and cares if things can be done at scale.
