My dad is one of the culture warrior racists though. He worked there for 15 years until meth got the better of him.
I told him about the raid and he’s kinda shook. One of the guys he was close with who runs an area of 100 employee’s has to quit and can’t come back because of this.
Seems like hes having one of those moments where he realizes how all his horrible racist ideology actually affects people and is bummed about it. I have zero hope he changes his view though.
It seems weird if that’s an official warning. Wouldn’t they need to be seen rounding up as many as possible to demonstrate their usefulness?
On the other hand, a warning encourages self-deportation and saves all that pesky paperwork.
If it’s an unofficial warning by a Good Samaritan, they’re going to know there’s a rat as soon as they show up on Monday and everybody they were looking for mysteriously quit 3 days earlier.
They just want people to self-deport or make their lives hell in some way - doesn’t have to be through complicated arrests that require manpower and lawyers and stuff. Like dvaut said - terrorizing them and reminding even legal immigrants they are second-class citizens is the whole point.
Maybe they warn like 20 businesses and only raid one to get more bang for their back. Like how the RIAA would make a big show about fining some poor kid $5000 for using napster in his bedroom.
Can you imagine??? That’s a great video. Did you ever get to see them? I was the wrong age to care about seeing them when they were big, but a friend got me into them over the last ten years or so.
Never been a greater pairing of music and cinema than the final moments of The Matrix
The music is perfectly synced with the visuals. The guitar kicks in right as that black speck comes into view enough for your brain to recognize that’s Neo before you realize it, and then the wicked bass hits you at black with the Wachowski credit.
On The Matrix, if I recall, this was one of the only movies to be released with a score-only track option, but it’s also one of the only movies for which I’d recommend it for (that one was for @MrWookie). The movie is so visually stunning that it’s a rich experience on it’s own to watch it with no dialogue, no sound effects, just the music. And the score is so good anyway. Don Davis is perfect for scoring sci-fi and video games.
AFAIK none of them are self deporting. They are just quitting the job and looking to get one somewhere else. It being CA it should be pretty easy for them to get more work. Though I feel awful for the people that are over 50 who worked there way pretty high up in the company. They’ll probably have to start over somewhere else.
I met the guy my dad was good friends with and he seems like a great guy. A real bummer. Texted my uncle to see what his reaction is.
Should be noted this is in San Bernardino which I looked up, it has the highest number of ICE community arrests in the freaking country according to this article. Complete deplorable county which was the only one in CA that didn’t have a democrat even qualify to run for the house seat.
Quite a few movies were released with score only option. We used to recreate score only versions from the original recording sessions for Looney Tunes cartoons, and that was a feature a lot of people liked.
I’m not dissing Looney Tunes, I’m just saying this is like the Prince Family Paper episode of The Office where someone finally convinces Kevin to switch sides on whether Hillary Swank is hot, but then he goes back to NOPE when he says guys, the question is whether she’s hot, not “Would you do her?”
I was just letting you know that there were lots of music only versions of movies done in the early days of DVD when you thought there weren’t many, and gave you an example of one that probably created nearly 100 versions of classic cartoons.
We discussed the NORDVPN hack when it was first publicized but it seems user credentials have been distributed in the wild now. So if anyone is a subscriber they should definitely change their password information.
