What helps Lichess and Wikipedia not be enshittified is that they’re both NPO and rely on user donations to stay independent.
The fucking pickle that I get on the side with my sandwich* at the deli that I normally go to has shrunken to about 1/3 the size. At first I thought it was variance, but after 3 consecutive small pickles, it looks like they are trying to save money on fucking pickles.
*The sandwich has also shrunken, but that’s standard these days. Also it was massive, so it might actually be healthier that I eat the smaller sandwich.
Portion size in America has been out of control for a long time. Relax about an air head having a few less calories.
Podcasts definitely not better. A zillion ads and everyone’s trying to shove video down your throat. Oh and the ads are all the same so you don’t ever actually get exposed to any new products - just Bouqs and Monday dot com.
car safety features (lane mitigation, collusion prevention) have improved to be fair. just driving around, i feel like when you see an accident, it is usually an older cars that caused it.
Airlines basically extorting fees from people by boarding you dead last if you don’t pay to be in one of the earlier boarding groups. Also, if you’re in the last group you’re basically guaranteed to have to check your bag because all the overhead bins will be full.
Agree. My current car is better in every way from previous ones for this kind of thing.
Wsop experience since app is infinitely better
True. You can get these aftermarket pretty cheap…not the kind that activate your brakes or steering, but just warning lights and beeps. Maybe I’ll get one.
I don’t look at enshittification as things simply getting worse. It’s more like worse in a way that is designed to trap you in the product/service, make you take extra steps to accomplish the same thing, and/or extract more money from you. And it’s typically with online/digital services.
For instance, Facebook used to be a decent, useful, fun site back in the day. It was a way for people to stay connected to their friends and see updates on people’s lives. It wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it was useful and many people enjoyed it. Once the company had gajillions of users locked into their ecosystem, they started piling on ads, addictive algorithms, AI bullshit, etc. It went from something that was good for the users to something that was good for the company.
And now the site is mostly just a platform for people to monetize.
Or the food delivery apps. Hey, cool idea - give consumers a way to get food delivers from all sorts of places, not just ones that have their own drivers, and give restaurants an opportunity to gain more customers without having to hire drivers. Fast forward to when the apps are cemented into people’s lives and the economy, so now they can rip off restaurants who have no choice but to use them or risk not being seen by customers and exploit drivers by paying them less and less as they show they are willing to accept lower fares.
i lol’d at you thinking pepsi>coke, then i wondered how many weirdos like you are out there…
- coke
- pepsi
I don’t really care between Coke and Pepsi. I probably prefer Coke, but it also depends on the exact drink.
Coke Zero > Pepsi Zero (both are good)
Pepsi > Coke (both are good)
Diet Pepsi >>>>>>>>>> Diet Coke
I almost never have regular Coke or Pepsi anymore, so they taste strange to me.
Generally the same. Either is fine, probably prefer Coke. Diet both are awful. Zero both are fine. Coke Zero is pretty good.
If I buy it for home, I usually get the generic store brand drink instead.
I don’t drink the non-diet versions. I mean Diet Coke. Hate Diet Pepsi.
Sugar substitutes are heinous. If I don’t want a coke, rather drink unsweetened iced tea or water or something than subject myself to that awful taste.
Waterloo peach sparkling water ftw
It’s only because you’re used to the cloying taste of sugary drinks.
