If you backing a box truck up, you need the side mirrors.
Yeah obv use every tool available to you, including glancing at mirrors (because you’re trying to thread the needle instead of, you know, just going forward).
I bet historically there is a lot more scrapes and close parking from backing in.
Team back in. Not sure what kind of parking lots youre trying to back out of but around here there are constant streams of people who don’t know how to drive speeding around. Good luck backing out blind after being sandwiched between 2 F150s.
I’d have agreed with you back in the day, but modern cars take a lot of the skill out of backing in and parallel parking. Just follow the lines on your rear camera and your set. And if you have a really fancy car, it will just park itself.
Most of the towns I’ve been in that have the mandatory back-in parking are the same ones that have an epidemic of Napoleon complex dipshits who can’t drive for fuck captaining preposterous oversized trucks. So it just ends up being a bunch of time wasters doing the multi attempt backward park as traffic accumulates on a single lane downtown area.
What if my car is too old to have a camera?
Then you’ve probably got actual skills.
the yuppy street near me just went to the reverse angle back ins. it also has a bunch of stores and restaurants with one word names because white people go crazy for that shit.
If there’s no one around, go for it. If I am behind you in the travel lane and you pull past the spot and start backing up, you can fuck right off.
That’s the sum total of all my accidents in the last decade
California too. I haven’t read the research, but I’ve been told that it is safer to do the backing in when one parks vs when one leaves.
80 new post in the Elon thread I thought the stock tanked.
I back in at home and park straight when public parking.
Why is it better to take more time parking than leaving? Aren’t any “time savings” gained by pulling out lost by the time wasted backing into the spot in the first place? Granted if you were able to pull into the spot from the spot behind it that might make sense, but people who pull through aren’t the best people either.
If you are backing in just in case your car needs a jump you have already shown your lack of decision making skills and shouldn’t be allowed in a car in the first place…
You probably drive all the way to the end of the lane before merging because “it’s faster” too don’t you?
Ha now I’m on his side.
The lanes are designed to be used, if you are in a high traffic situation you should go to the end of the clear lane before merging.
Note that this does NOT include:
- swerving into the merge lane to go around people if you are already on the main highway
- Merging after the end of the lane
People preemptively putting themselves in long lines when there is clear road in front of them not only slow themselves down but the entire roadway.
It’s an oil and gas thing. You back in at all facilities so you can leave quicker in an emergency. The frequency of this behaviour strongly correlates with lots of heavy industry jobs.
