Elon Musk: The Reichest Man Alive

yea it was super dumb, there was a period where it was working for a second, but that stock really defies any kind of common sense or fundamentals

I used Sixt for the first time in PHX this year. They were way cheaper than everyone else and I was expecting a bunch of shit but they were super nice and it was seamless. I used a booking site and got worried because the site ended up being out of Latvia but it all worked out in the end.

I can also recommend Advantage Car Rental, at least their Vegas location. Their website looks like shit, and their cars aren’t great, but they’re cheap and fast. They’re just across the street and down a couple hundred yards from the vegas rental car center, so if you use them don’t bother waiting for their shuttle. Just walk it.

Don’t forget Elon called Bill Gates an asshole to the core for shorting Tesla. Even if Gates didn’t make money he came out ahead imo.

People are totally fine with Constitutional rights being ignored as long as it’s to “catch bad guys” they just disagree on what makes someone bad sometimes.

Not everyone cares a lot about politics. I doubt much of their loss in sales is political backlash, it’s probably more about increased compeition. There are a lot more electric car options now, including options from brands like Audi or Mercedes that potential Tesla buyers may already trust and like.

World’s richest man posts on 4chan chasing clout.

Confluence of topics. Hertz is downsizing from 100k Teslas and is reportedly offering deals to buy the car to folks that rented them.

And yet my QCLN (clean energy fund which currently holds 12% TSLA) is down 50%. The only mutual fund/stock I have out of dozens that’s down since covid, and the others are all way up. Go figure.

I am rich and have no idea what to do with my life

Life has been a haze this last year. After selling my company, I find myself in the totally un-relatable position of never having to work again. Everything feels like a side quest, but not in an inspiring way. I don’t have the same base desires driving me to make money or gain status. I have infinite freedom, yet I don’t know what to do with it, and, honestly, I’m not the most optimistic about life.

I know. This is a completely zeroth-world position to be in. The point of this post isn’t to brag or gain sympathy. To be honest, I don’t exactly know what the point of this post is. I tried to manufacture one, but I just felt like a phony. Then I recognized the irony of creating purpose out of a blog post when I don’t currently have much conviction or purpose in life.

So I’ll just go ahead and explain my current situation for my own selfish purposes. To push myself to be completely (and awkwardly) vulnerable to a blob of nameless strangers over the internet. No expectations of what comes out of it.

Working for DOGE for 4 weeks, remembering the power of urgency

Within 2 minutes of talking to the final interviewer for DOGE, he asked me if I wanted to join. I said “yes”. Then he said “cool” and I was in multiple Signal groups. I was immediately acquainted with the software, HR, and legal teams and went from 0 to 100 taking meetings and getting shit done. This was the day before Thanksgiving.

The next 4 weeks of my life consisted of 100s of calls recruiting the smartest people I’ve ever talked to, working on various projects I’m definitely not able to talk about, and learning how completely dysfunctional the government was. It was a blast.

I learned about the power of urgency and having an undeniable mission. Not by reading it somewhere. By experiencing it. I came to realize how laughable my robotics stint had been in comparison. And I started to realize that, although the mission of DOGE is extremely important, it wasn’t the most important thing I needed to focus on with urgency for myself. I needed to get back to ambiguity, focus on my insecurities, and be ok with that for a while. DOGE wasn’t going to fix that.

So, after 4 intense and intoxicating weeks, I called off my plans to move to DC and embark on a journey to save our government with some of the smartest people I’ve ever met. And I booked a 1-way ticket to Hawaii.

This whole thing is just gross. Congrats on your first steps to becoming a human being (maybe). Tech bros man.

I mean it’s pretty damn good if read as a parody.

Considering Vivek thinks 70% of government regulations were created simply because government employees needed something to do, I’m going to hazard a guess that this guy’s views on what makes government so dysfunctional are problematic.

This guy knows less about government than the average poly sci major with a half complete degree. TBF, the same applies to Vivek.

He’s real. Here’s the discussion on hackernews: I am rich and have no idea what to do | Hacker News

But he’s super duper smart! Surely he can figure out how government works in a weekend or two.

Turo used to be cheaper than one of the big rental agencies. But now it is more expensive for the same car. I still use it a lot for a couple of reasons.

-Pick up/Drop off is far superior. Even if you are enrolled in one of those programs that allows you to skip the rental counter, it is still faster. Generally you just get picked up at the terminal. No shuttle or any of that shit.

-You can get a shittier car to save money. Often I’ll get a car in the 2015-2020 range. You can look at reviews to see how it drives. Normally an older car is good enough for my purposes and it’s cheaper than the near new car that you would get from Hertz or wherever.

Despite above, the main drawback is “what if something happens”. I actually had that happen once. Was not terrible at all. I rented a car that was about 8 yrs old, but in pristine condition inside and out. Looked almost brand new. Fairly low mileage for that age. When I returned it there was a small scratch where some paint came off the wheel cover. I had no idea it happened. I thought it was fairly minor, and I’m pretty sure Avis would have let it slide.

Owner reports it to Turo. He has photos, so it’s clear that it wasn’t there before (I don’t question that part). Turo encourages us to work it out before they step in. We agree on $100 and that’s the end of it. Even adding that to the rental price, it was not a terrible deal. Also less than I would have paid for full insurance for the entire week that I had it. It definitely could have been more of a headache, though. I got lucky.

Insurance is another issue. Getting insurance through Turo is cheaper than the exorbitant amount that they charge at a standard rental agency. But I never buy insurance. I’ve got auto and my credit card provides primary insurance. However, it is not clear that either of those will cover Turo. So if something more than a scratch happens, it could be a huge pain.

TBF, a very charitable reading would be that he jumped in and then quickly figured out it was all complicated laws and shit and the job was actually impossible and was being overseen by morons who don’t yet know it is impossible, so he quickly pivoted out. He may not know much, but he seems like a quick learner.

I think hed be pretty happy if he gave me 85% of his wealth. Ill reach out to him to be sure.

Ive got a great idea for a Corvid rescue and rehabilitation farm. Who doesnt love corvids?
