Dawkins has been a raging asshole for decades.
Looks like Mars is off the menu.
Letâs see how the fanboys are coping.

My strategic pivot was from my plan to climb Mt Everest to occasionally walking around the neighborhood, maybe, in a few years.
The linked article was a fun read.
I wouldnât worry about Eric though. Heâll be fully on board with Elonâs new vision soon enough.
I grew up in the 70s, which was like dodging a Cambodian mine field to get out of w/o being molested. It seems like it was just one of those jokey/winky things that no one talked about but happened to everyone.
In 7th grade we had a coach who would make you shower after every gym, even if you did basically nothing, then watch from his office through a window. The kids called him âGay Calvinâ and treated with typical kid seriousness. Iâm sure the school knew and just figured he was harmless as long as he didnât touch anyone. Which is probably what Penn St. thought about Sandusky.
When was 6 or so, I narrowly escaped being molested by a friend of the family who basically terrorized his brother and ended up going to jail for a long long time for having sex with his 15-year-old daughter. Only much later I realized what almost happened.
I had a karate teacher who insisted on showing us how to basically re-ascend our balls so they didnât get kicked in a fight, which is apparently some very important skill that 11-year-old white belts need to know. He actually touched the scrotal area to make sure our balls were protected. As a kid I picked up on the uncomfortability of his assistants that something was wrong. Like everyone knew this was ball touching day and were on edge. Imagine that flying now. I doubt they even have karate practices w/o one or more parents present now.
My summer camp got closed down because one of the sons of the family who ran it was molesting campers. If you stayed more than one week, there was one night where it was only a handful kids that were staying over. We all moved to one corner of the bunkhouse and the counselor (who may have been the molester) asked us if we want to hear ghost stories or dirty jokes. Of course being 10-year-old boys, we all said dirty jokes. I learned basically everything and then some that night. I believe nowadays we call that grooming.
Almost every girl I know well enough to talk about this stuff had something happen to them. Some were kind of blase about it like Dawkins. Some were obviously traumatized.
Anyway I do think thereâs a conversation about whether on a personal level to work through what happened to you as a kid, or just try to bury it and move on. And itâs possible that society making a much bigger deal about abuse causes people to fixate on things that happened to them in childhood as an external source of all their adult issues, when in reality their issues are much more complicated.
But, much like the ephebophilia distinction, anyone who keeps bringing up the subject or finding a way to work it into conversation gets a gigantic red flag from me.
I feel like, just as someone once explained to Trump that Article II arguably gives the president plenary powers (absurd, but there are âseriousâ people who argue such things) and Trump has been running with it ever since, that a lawyer once told Elon that if you make a prediction about what the company will do in 3+ years then it cannot possibly be securities fraud under controlling legal authority.
Like I donât know securities law other than what I pick up from occasionally reading Mark Levin, but the way Elon approaches corporate announcements convinces me that there solid law saying that expressing what the corporation intends to do in 3 years if âconditions are rightâ or whatever has been held nonactionable as a matter of law because no reasonable investor would rely on it.
Yeah. I mean. Itâs a terrible argument, and it shouldnât be considered by anyone actually dealing with sex abuse, but I also donât think it makes him a bad person.
*He may be a bad person for other reasons
Yeah. Your last line is right.
Like for me this stuff is about direction.
Children and adults survivors are not getting enough support and protection today, everyoneâs job is to push society in the right direction, not look for spots to argue the minutia.
Long shot, but was this camp in Iowa?
Makes way more sense anyway. Doing a Mars mission before any long-time Moon mission was always crazy to me.
A moon mission would give us experience in radiation shielding which is what is going to prevent us from doing any cool stuff in space until we can solve the problem.
It would give us experience in all kinds of stuff that is needed on Mars. Mars is not really more hospitable than the Moon after all.
Why even send humans when AI is supposedly getting better and better? Build a robot colony on the moon or whatever so they can mine for whatever resources you think are up there.
Seems like Mars would be a perfect place for people to live while they remotely operate the robots on Earth
Signal latency to Mars is up to 20 minutes or so, Moon is a second.
Waymo headquarters will be on the moon.
A city on the moon is idiotic. The Earth on the worst day after climate catastrophe and nuclear war is more habitable than the moon or Mars or space. It should absolutely be criminal to waste natural resources, which by any moral measure belong to all people and living beings in common, like that. Once was cool maybe.
Correct which is why there is no chance this happens in our lifetime. He will waste more natural resources generating AI images of a moon city than he ever will on actually building a moon city. It just sounds cool and futuristic.
Worth it if we can force Elon Musk to live there.
