Editing Dahl and others

Is there a difference between a book and a painting?

Hint: think about the ending of Fahrenheit 451

Maye we can just rename this thread and start a new LC thread?

More ignorance.

Duchamp was poking fun at an iconic piece of High Art and at traditional ideas of beauty in Art which Dadaists believed were irrelevant to the modern age, not seeking to edit or replace it.

The giveaway is the inscription L.H.O.O.Q.which when said aloud sounds like ā€œShe has a hot arseā€.

The golden rule of Narnia books is that the ones where Aslan has a significant role in the plot are lame, but the ones where heā€™s like a Greek chorus are cool.

Bonus CS Lewis take: Perelandra is actually really good despite being super-duper religious. Not quite Graham Greene level, but still very good.

I randomly reread Prince Caspian as an adult and was shocked by how overt the Christian allegory was. All over my head as a kid.

I canā€™t think of C.S. Lewis now without thinking of his admission to a friend in a letter that Matthew 24:34 was ā€œthe most embarrassing verse in the Bibleā€. Matthew 24 is a description by Jesus of all the shit that is going to go down when he returns and verse 34 says this:

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Oops! The whole of Christianity since like 100 AD has been When Prophecy Fails shit. Lewis had just been clowned in a debate with Bertrand Russell citing this verse. I guess even though he didnā€™t change his mind, at least he realised he had taken a very fair L.

probably, Iā€™m not reading this fucking thread, just responding to one post in a vacuum

I guess. For me, the fact that they were going to stop publishing the originals was the real problem. You canā€™t stop people from writing bad books. I could go write some horrible Winnie the Pooh/Eeyore slash stuff right now and no one can stop me. (WtP moaning: ā€œIā€™m gonna take you like a grizzly bear!ā€ Eeyore: Okayā€¦). Big difference between some talentless hacks writing crap and talentless hacks suppressing existing works.

Kinda feels like people are just fighting pointlessly out of inertia.

The problem has always been that the publisher is falsely crediting Dahl with things he didnā€™t write.

No fucking way!

Thatā€™s a shame. You read the single most disingenuous post of the entire conversation, but assumed it was a good faith response to bad faith posting, so you could call a large number of people bad faith dullards despite not read anything theyā€™d posted whatsoever. You missed a couple worthwhile discussions!

Diddle whatever you want, Iā€™m just amused by your haste to drop some (common) knowledge bombs on your enemies like Europeans are the only ones who can know anything about anything revealing that you hadnā€™t been following the argument at all and had no idea what was going on.

Wonder where that assumption came from!

Is that the Mona Lisa that Leonardo da Vinciā€™s grandson made to replace the original and then locked the original in a closet in his basement, or am I thinking of another one?

Are Dahlā€™s grandchildren going house to house taking everyoneā€™s copies away? Or did I miss that part of the story?

No, but Leonardo da Vinciā€™s grandson isnā€™t going house to house taking the non-mustache-sould-patch prints away either.
