i thought the timeline was that fox news got the story first and decided against publishing it because of the obvious credibility problems of the story, and then they went to the ny post to push it.

The problem is that right now there’s huge variance in how Twitter shakes out. It might wither over the course of 18 months before collapsing, sure.
But there’s a scenario where it stabilizes and simply is a lot more Fox News like in its algorithm and content moderation. Respectable journalists will predominantly leave to another platform, but some won’t and the right wing derposphere has a permanent, high profile home. Billions
of hours spent online juiced with right wing messages. And the whole idea of what respectable journalism is starts to shift, with those that decamp being seen as shifty ideologues and those that stay being seen as moderate and reasonable.
Fox News-ified Twitter seems like a very bad development imo.

fox news-ified twitter is Facebook. Maybe the young Ben Shapiro chuds will use twitter and I’m not sure how big that userbase is. But no way are the boomers who have had their brains turned to mush by this stuff going to make the jump to twitter.
Fox News and the NYPost are owned by the same person, so might have just been a decision how to brand the story. Hard to imagine Murdoch didn’t sign off on this at some level to allow it to move forward. Like I said, the Post is more or less a tabloid.
Also an interesting subplot which never gets mentioned is that before all this came down Hunter Biden and Tucker Carlson were close IRL friends. So it is very possible Tucker didn’t want to be involved initially, and I imagine it is hard to run a story like that and not have your #1 talent involved.
