I think this is kind of a black swan event. Some dude is like actively destroying the company and people desperately want a good alternative.
I guess you could be right about twitter not being a viable business, but I find that hard to be believe. There has to be some way to monetize that kind of volume.
Certainly. Last year Twitter lost $221 million on $5B revenue. They already were profitable in 2018/19.
Possible solutions
a) keep growing
b) Find a way to monetize Non-US users. They make up 80%+ of users but only 40% of revenue.
c) Squeeze out 10% more out of US-users.
Maybe Elon has the right idea but just has the wrong implementation. Rather than selling verified badges to ordinary people who don’t want them, he could instead sell them to nazis so people know they’re a verified nazi. If he did that… oh wait, nevermind.
That is not what already profitable companies look for though. If Google is currently making a profit on their revenue then they are only interested in acquisitions that make at least the same amount of profit on additional revenue or acquisitions that increase the profit from their current customers/services. Anything else is not worth their investment. Twitter users are not going to use Google more just because Google now owns it so Google is not interested in Twitter. Same for all the other big players unless they can get it at a huge discount and debt free after Musk bankrupts Twitter.
Just saw this tiktok that said the Tesla engineers accidentally leaked the layoff metrics to the Twitter slack where everyone could read it. Tesla uses a different app and makes new channels private, apparently slack does not.
