This is an outlier.

But Trump is at -17 net approval in this same poll, about the same as the Elliot Morris average. Anyway, :crossed_fingers:

This means absolutely nothing

If the Riverman curse means anything, and I think it does, then we’re in good shape.

I am here to tell you, the first politician to change their name to “Generic Democrat” is going to rule the roost

Generic Dems always outperform actual Dems. Every actual Dem has weaknesses that the Rs attack with propaganda.

To clarify, if I was “Generic Democrat” I would run under the Republican party line.

My best guess on how the Republicans turn on Trump is that it’ll be a “soft” rejection. After the midterms, they just sort of start moving on without ever explicitly repudiating him. I am not sure if Trump thinks he’s running again in 2028, but I don’t think the party wants him to. I think they’re tired of him.

They’ll just sort of stop returning his calls in 2027, and stop caring about his threats. They’ll try to treat him like a typical lame duck and just ride it out. Hoping they can just move on.

Just a guess. I could be way off. This is also sort of predicated on the Dems doing well in 2026.

The way to do it would be to win a R primary under your normal name, then change your name to “Generic Democrat” before the election.

The hope is they can release this pedo stuff and see how his approval is. If it sinks below 20% they can say they agreed with his policies, but they are capable of being bipartisan unlike the Dems and his criminality outweighs his great policies and they need a new Republican leader who will do what Trump did policy wise without the crimes.

Dems just need some basic-ass politico who isn’t 500 years old and/or Hillary Clinton to win. Hilariously, they somehow can’t manage to do this.

I could be misremembering here, but I think you’re wrong here. The ‘general democrat’ in a presidential election driven by personality of each individual is near useless. The ‘general democrat’ in an off-election year with 468 individual local races is much more useful.

We are about at the same generic ballot polling leading up to the midterms of 2018 when Dems won something like 40 seats in the House.

You may be right, I was thinking of Presidential elections where the Dem candidate is subject to the full, focused power of the R misinformation machine.

Annoyingly I think the only person who would publish something on that would be Nate Silver, and I just don’t feel like it today.

People don’t read well and the answer to this is going to be someone changing their name to “Geriatric Democrat”.

Umm in the most recent polls he has like 91% job approval among republicans.

Latest Reuters poll had him down to 82%.

That’s not enough, but if he keeps slipping, there might be an opportunity if establishment Republicans want to try to put the knife in him.

(No I don’t think this will happen, but the chances are higher than they were in the summer)

The chance to knife him was January 7th 2021 and they passed.

The 2028 elections will be all about Republicans trying to both praise Trump and distance themselves from him. They will talk out of both sides of their mouths to try to gather the support of both anti trump conservatives and the hardcore maga base. Part of this tactic will involve continued demonizing of the most vulnerable people. It will work because republican voters are incredibly gullible, stupid, and cruel. Our best hope is that the maga base disappears when Trump does.
