Nice title update.
Do we know how slam-dunk the evidence is? I know Trump is paper-averse, so maybe we don’t have a smoking gun?
I voted hung jury in the poll, but I suppose a guilty verdict is possible, depending on how direct and plain the evidence is. It’s one thing to (for example) claim that Trump’s inauguration crowd was the biggest ever because you heard it on Fox, it’s another thing to be shown pictures. Even MAGA die-hards could be swayed if the evidence is plain enough (peer pressure is a thing, even for them: “look at these two pictures, do you really think this crowd is bigger than that crowd?”)
However if it hinges on believing witnesses, they could always just say “I don’t believe that guy”
My FIL voted for trump and thinks Biden is old and dumb. But I think if he was on this jury he’s still voting guilty. There is going to be so much evidence at every trial.
Wait, has no one here mentioned this guy’s manifesto? I’m having trouble copying from my phone, but this is an excellent real or onion quote:
So I asked myself the question: If ‘The Simpsons’ served the interests of organized crime, how would it do so?”
Spoiler: it’s real
I think this really comes down to will right leaning or otherwise susceptible people snap back to reality once they are in that courtroom environment having evidence presented by competent attorneys and not consuming rage bait media every day.
My mom is an anti-Trump conservative Romney/Kasich voter. She hates Trump and thinks he’s terrible. She’s usually very intelligent and rational. But lately when I talk to her I have to hear about how Biden is letting in waves of illegal immigrants and giving them free housing and money and that’s why our economy sucks. It’s so fucking weird. But I’d 100% think she’d vote to convict with this evidence.
The question is whether one or more of the jurors is someone who would never convict under any circumstances. That would include full loons who believe in Pizzagate etc, but it would also include Merrick Garland types. You also have to account for the possibility that somebody sees this as an opportunity to grift off of being “the juror who saved Trump”.
How much is this grift actually worth? For example, how well is Rittenhouse doing. My sense is that he didn’t cash in for all that much. But I don’t know how we can know for sure.
Gun nut grifting is a crowded ecosystem and Rittenhouse is yesterday’s news. Whatever happened to George Zimmerman? Or that Kent State gun girl? They’re all riding the same train.

Holy smokes we got a politics junkie on board.
We better keep our eyes out for anyone from Unstuck who suddenly stops posting. They might be on the jury.
I would be posting from the jury box
I would appreciate your sacrifice as Trump crop dusts you
Imagine the traffic bump this place would get if UP got a plug from a juror.
Unsure if this is the correct thread to post the following request (if not mod please move) but I’m looking for links to articles in “traditional” US news media during the 2016 election campaign.
Specifically want some noteworthy examples of coverage of Hillary’s emails and the Trump Access Hollywood tape. The more hysterical / egregious the better, especially if it’s from historically trusted sources such as WP, NYT, CNN etc as the aim is to explore false equivalence in media framing and its effect on candidate support.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help. Would prefer DMs as I don’t wish to hijack.
I wasn’t able to watch any live coverage of the trial this week. Last weekend there was talk of reprimands on Monday for Trump violating the gag order. I remember pundits being astonished and saying the judge will act on that first thing. Nothing happened with that, right?
On Monday, the DA requested sanctions of $1K per violation. The judge scheduled a hearing for the 23rd. Merchan seemed to want to focus on seating the jury rather than getting bogged down on this issue. There’s some fine print but his basic options are 1) do nothing, 2) $1K per violation, or 3) up to 30 days in jail. Nobody expects 3) at this point. Trump knows that so he’s going to continue to do shit.
