It’s stupid, yet this speaking directly to the main concern of voters (household financial pressure / inflation) is what wins elections. If Trump gets up and rants incoherently about inflation and Biden gets up and touts his record, then Biden will lose.

If the stock market wasn’t up wildly, then the stock market would be all he would talk about. But he can’t talk about that, so he has indeed sort of accidentally tripped into talking about the main concern of voters.
