Do We Have/Need a Math and Science Thread?

Sorry if this post is inappropriate. I wasn’t sure what if any, category this belongs. Mods can delete, move, change title, or do whatever is best

I know we have a space stuff thread, but wasn’t sure about science in general. I’m just a layman, but love learning about interesting astronomy, astrophysics (to the extent I can follow it) and other science stuff going on. I’ve also noticed we have some talented math people on the forum and wasn’t sure if they’d be willing to help us challenged mortals when we’re being dumb like I am with this problem I’m trying to figure out now

A poker room has a high hand promotion which pays $100 every hour. To keep things simple assume 10 handed tables. If just one full table is running and assuming each player has identical vpip and post flop play, this would mean that each player has a 1/10 chance of winning the $100 or an ev of $10/hr

But what if 5 of these 10 players have twice the vpip as the other 5? Is the high hand twice as likely to be awarded to this group? If so, how do the individual odds break down now? If each member of the tighter group was 1/10, what is each now? Not sure if it should drop by half.

What I’m really trying to figure out is how much less likely a 13 vpip has than a 40 vpip

Wouldn’t it just be 40/13 or ~3 times less likely for a 13 vpip player to hit the jackpot than the 40 vpip player? Assuming vpip means they’re going to see enough of the hand to know if it is the winner then the 40 vpip player sees 3 times as many hands as the 13 vpip player. I suppose you could make it more complicated by assuming the 40 vpip player sees hands that will never by the high hand, but I’d hope that is offset by the number of hands folded by the 13 vpip player that could have won the jackpot…
