I’m saying the UK trial did not approach the level of discovery of the US trial. The facts that were presented at the US trial were extremely one sided and Depp’s side did a very good job of making their case.
Heard wasn’t the defendant in the UK trial the Sun was. The Sun proved that they had ‘credible witnesses’ that enabled them to call Depp a wife beater in print. I think it’s very obvious after the US trial has concluded that calling Amber Heard a credible witness is just bonkers.
There’s a small mountain of damning evidence against Heard. What she has vs Depp is super weak and a sizable amount of it was literally proven to be fabricated in the US trial.
Trial just irks me from just a pure formal logic standpoint.
"Depp responds that “I just couldn’t take the idea of more physicality, more physical abuse on each other,”
I mean how is this not just blatantly admitting to being an abuser? Somehow the absuse from the other side actually negates your abuse? Seems like a case of “You da puppet” actually working in a courtroom.
You really have to listen to the full audio to understand that particular conversation. She admits in the same call that he did not hit her on that occasion at least and that she basically beat him up.
Nobody ITT is claiming that Depp never laid a finger on Heard or even that he’s a decent human being. He pals around with way too many people with raging personality disorders for that.
I feel like a lot of people here think that a man having a physical altercation with a woman is always the man’s fault, and I think that’s pretty sexist of you. Women have the same level of responsibility for physical altercations they directly initiate that men do. Depp obviously fucked this whole situation up massively. The only correct line for him was to take the first beating and then instantly dump her… but I would argue that you could make the same argument for every single battered woman ever and that it’s victim blaming.
For incident #13, the court again ruled in favour of NGN’s account.[58][106][93] They did not accept Depp’s claim that Heard had hit him, as the metadata of the photograph that Sean Bett claimed was taken of the injuries to Depp’s face immediately after the incident was found to have been taken in March 2015, during the aftermath of Incident #9 where Heard had admitted to punching him to defend her sister. Bett could not explain this discrepancy, which reduced the weight of his statement.[106]
Yes. Tons of it. Almost all of the evidence she presented in fact was on this level.
I really can’t overstate how unsubtle a legal beatdown this was. Really beyond brutal.
I feel like a lot of you don’t realize that AH literally beat up a female partner at an airport prior to Depp. This woman hits her romantic partners. All of them. A lot.
I’m not saying that at all, its that if you’re in a mutually abusive relationship (which again seems like Depp is very obviously admitting to) then its necessary that the other side was at least sometimes abused, which is all that is needed to make calling themselves an abuse victim true, even if other things that may have been said during the trial were false.
This is the reason why the jury gave money to both sides… which despite the instructions to the jury I think was pretty just.
Seriously though Depp has at least two five alarm personality disorders at a minimum in his inner orbit. Marilyn Manson who he has matching tattoos with and he hung out with a lot and Amber Heard who he married. Just being close to people like these is enough to get me to have major suspicions. I’m sure he’s a deeply dysfunctional person with a ton of really problematic views on god knows what. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s got a much better claim to being a domestic abuse survivor than Heard does.
Fun fact: a lot of female victims of male domestic abuse aren’t such good people either. A lot of them also abuse their kids. That doesn’t make them the abuser with the person abusing them.
She claimed on the stand that these were two different photos taken at different times under different lighting:
Vasquez: You testified yesterday that the only difference between these two photographs is that the light was turned on.
Heard: That’s what it appears to be, yes.
Vasquez: The light is on in both of these pictures though, isn’t that right?
Heard: It looks to me like the one on the left has the vanity light–the makeup lights–you know, the more yellow-hued ones that go around the mirror, on, and then the one on the right looks like it doesn’t have those.
Vasquez: Isn’t it true you just edited these photographs?
Heard: No, I’ve never edited a photograph.
Vasquez: Didn’t you just enhance the saturation of one these photos to make your face appear more red?
Heard: Uh, no, that’s incorrect. I didn’t touch it.
No, what I think is that if 2 people are both abusive to each other and one of them states that she is a victim of abuse, it’s preposterous for her to lose a $10M defamation suit over it. How is it possibly relevant who abused who more or who is more at fault? Not to mention that the power dynamics have always been squarely in his favor.
In addition, the context of this being used by the entire Right and Center as a way to signify the end of the #metoo movement, as well as the massive FREEZE PEACH issue that they claim to care so deeply about yet is completely dismissed here, makes it all the more frustrating that so many people are like ehhh who cares or ehhh she deserves it.
This is a dumb way to think about what happened here. A domestically abusive partner went to the media in a direct attempt to ruin their victims career when they finally left. She lost the defamation suit because she went out and told a ton of extremely financially damaging lies in the public space.
She got herself honored as a representative for domestic violence lol. All of this while she abused the person she was accusing to such a degree that he lost a fucking finger. The reason the right gets to hang this around our necks like a burning tire is that a lot of people ITT are still defending her. You want to be mad at someone be mad at her and mad at the people who auto accepted her story because they knew that stories about Johnny Depp being a wife beater would sell a ton of ads.
Sometimes people aren’t what they look like and sometimes bad people use that to their advantage. It is what it is. Now all we can do is hope Amber Heard being such an incredibly obvious flaming bag of shit doesn’t damage the movement at large too badly.
I hope she goes real life broke because of this. She’s harmed literally every domestic violence victim ever with this.
Ok but no one here was championing AH, yet the result is now millions of people are championing JD - a raging alcoholic and drug fiend who may or may not but probably did repeatedly hit his partner.
People are championing him because he got victimized. Claiming that he deserved it because he’s got substance abuse issues is pretty screwed up… and if you had been damn near forced clockwork orange style to watch the trial like I was you’d realize she was the obvious aggressor. Hitting your partner when they started battering you is very different contextually than attacking your partner in a fit of rage.
And I still want to be very clear that Depp is super culpable for this whole situation. The man was middle aged when this all happened. I simply can’t imagine being the biggest movie star in the world, having a girlfriend/wife hit me, and ever being alone with that person ever again in the process of having my personal staff escort her out of my life. He very clearly got trapped in the mutually assured destruction situation that so many abusers use to keep people trapped with them. He eventually found it so intolerable that he left her, and when he left her she made good on her threat to try to destroy him.
This is a super toxic situation that Depp got entangled in as a full grown adult. He’s clearly extremely comfortable around super shitty people and probably enjoys the way they act when they’re doing it to other people. That more or less guarantees he’s a world class enabler of really bad behavior. If you want to be mad at JD for something go look up what Marilyn Manson was up to while they were still best buds. Try and tell someone that JD had no idea what was going on with a straight face.
i would argue that people posting online similarly to yours are doing more harm to domestic violence victims… you’ve posted what appear to be dozens of times in the last 2-3 hours going to the absolute mat for an abuser, when you simply could have walked away.
the social media meme of “he wont see these posts, but the 1/3 women that are abused will” exists for this reason…
I went to the mat for a victim actually. A victim who isn’t even all that sympathetic, particularly not here. I refuse to accept that taking the side of the victim over the abuser is harming domestic abuse victims some of whom are male.
