My wife hadn’t heard of him, so I opened the book flap to his photo and said “Just look at this fucking guy.” She got it immediately.
had to find a mechanic for mower/tractor and the only surviving shop within 20 miles has noone checking the phones. so, had to drive into a bumfuck rural town on the southern tier. basically pennsyltucky. drove by a few thin blue line flags, found the place. lol what a sight, could have been a trmp mower parade. a hundred riding mowers in front and a giant trmp 2020 flag on top of the building.
walked in, it’s a small office with three people, no masks. my guess is that he hasn’t seen a doctor or debtist of any kind in a long time.
owner turned out to be rather friendly, pulled out the service records written on an index card. no computer anywhere that i saw. didn’t know how to come to pick up the mower, was confused by google maps on my phone, but made it there today anyway.
popped the hood, started it by basically snapping his fingers. probably could have pushed it onto the truck bed, but rode it like bmf’er. no idea how much he’s going to charge for tune up, oil leak, and loose choke. probably very little. judging by number of mechanics no longer in the region, they seems to be slowly dying.
is it worth talking politics to them in their place of business? no. would he throw me out if i wore my equal rights/biden mask? 50-50. would i call him again for a tuneup? i’d hate myself, but yeah probably…

If politics were to keep me away from people, I’d have to discard 80%+ of people in the Czech Republic.
Thankfully, most people here are low key about that stuff.
My landlord is very Islamophobic. It’s pretty mainstream to be that way even in a supposedly progressive area like Prague.
I honestly don’t know if the person who posted this is beyond the Q horizon or if they’re trolling, either way it was too good to pass up

anyway, I think we’re close to the breaking point. Deplorables are approaching maximum cognitive dissonance, I’m now seeing the same person in a single facebook thread make these arguments:

“the capitol fence is an offence to liberty and patriots” AND “antifa did Jan 6, it’s proven, and they’re going to do it again”

“the virus is a hoax” AND “trump should get all the credit for the vaccine”

“biden is the most dangerous, radical extreme of all time” AND “you can’t name a single thing biden has done in office” (pretty sure this person has already cashed their stimmy btw)
I mean we all knew they were just mashing buttons but it’s accelerating so much, once they get to the point where they’re making all these arguments in such rapid succession something will snap. What happens then is the big question - will they just disengage from politics altogether, move on to more active measures, or something else?

Jon Krakauer’s dad withered away and went insane late in life from some kind of syndrome that happens to people who had polio as a kid. Who the hell knows what kind of long term covid things may reappear down the line.
