Did xmas eve with very poor, very white in laws. MIL voted for Stein, other two certainly closet deplorables.
We were talking about my German car and how its hard to maintain it here and I said “no worries, president Bernie is making it a top priority to switch to the metric system” and nothing, blank stares.
My mom got pretty triggered this morning after watching a news story about Christmas waste and recycling because later while we were opening presents she kept making a huge sarcastic deal about throwing the wrapping paper away properly each time we opened a gift. It was really great. When the story aired I had to explain it to her like a five year old… it’s just a light hearted, nice story and not meant to be a condemnation of our entire culture. It seeks to put peoples mind at rest if they might have concerns about their environmental impact and it doesn’t make you a bad person if you don’t compost your Christmas tree ornaments. now cheer up sport and stop throwing a tantrum on Jesus’ birthday or whatever .
As posted above my family is a good mix of deplorable/progressive/centrists. Not a word of politics in the many hours they were here. Not even a joke about how the wife is Jewish and we’re having Christmas here. Idk if they are getting better or if they just didn’t have enough to drink.
My one passively deplorable family member said he is working on respecting other people’s opinions and not taking everything so personally, so we have made peace
The interesting data in that post was that Fox turned a reliable democratic vote into that. Fox really is the problem and something needs to be done about it.
You can get toilet paper with his face printed on it. I felt so conflicted about using it. On the one hand, yay symbolism. On the other, the quality of the paper was really quite bad.
