We were on a road trip and my daughter yelled “JESUS!”

I was like,“What? What’s wrong?”

She was just reading a billboard.

Yeah… sooner or later we’re going to collectively realize as a species that every major religion is absolutely riddled with abusers, and has been since they were founded.

I’m not sure any of the faiths that had existed for a century when the internet arrived are going to still be relevant a century after it.

Yea that was an absolutely heartbreaking read. Every paragraph hurt, but this one made me cry.

Blockquote
Two years later, in 2015, Leizza Adams gave birth to a second daughter. It took her husband just six weeks to start sexually assaulting her, recording the abuse, and uploading the videos to the internet.

That’s a literal lifetime if trauma for that child. My sister has fostered ~16 kids, most of them infants who are removed from their home after abuse, neglect, or both. She had one little girl who came to us when she was about one and a half, and wouldn’t let any man near her. After a few months she would be ok, until my sister or mom left the room then she would literally attack me. Scratch, bite, scream. Inante defense mechanisms ingrained in her brain from infancy. That shit is so indescribably sad to see.

Fuck everybody involved in this story who allowed these children to be so badly abused for so long.

God has nothing to with Religion (the idealized form of God). Religion is just politics.

I mean they could start by no longer pretending that sex offenders being drawn to religious institutions isn’t a serious problem that is actually hard to deal with. Every time one of these things explodes within a few weeks the people in charge are talking about how everything is fine now that that particular pocket of evil has finally popped (and spilled sewage all over everything).

Trying to make something hard look easy is a really good way to end up looking absolutely idiotic in my experience.

God is all knowing, all powerful, and all loving. Mormon sex cults are part of His plan.

Marcus Aurelius nailed it on this topic (as he did many other topics):

Why would god give a shit whether or not you spent your life obsessed over him? Sounds like they’d be the most annoying people to spend an eternal afterlife with.

Put differently, faith and Religion are not the same.

Sort of little r religion has more to do with belief and values while big R Religion has to do with the Church, Pope, rules, politics—really power and money.

I understand wanted/needing to believe in something. Sadly that makes the fish susceptible to those that use that to control them.

There’s a special place in hell for people obsessed with getting into heaven.

Sadly they make the rest of us live in their hell too.
