I will say that this is a rare society wide problem that directly impacts the affluent technocrats. One trend that was on the rise pre-COVID was the top 10% pulling the drawbridge up behind then and abandoning everyone else in service to the top 1% who are in service to the top .1%, etc. I wouldnāt be surprised if the next step from the affluent class is to build a set of controls that allow them to separate themselves in security in the next pandemic. Iām not sure what that looks like but they arenāt going to try to build a broad based pandemic safety net. Theyāre going to think of how to better protect themselves and their lifestyles.

Iām really worried about a new generation of anti-vax offspring that create a foothold for shit like measles to come back. The same guys who refuse to get the COVID vaccine because of Facebook disinfo are going to find that itās pretty easy to opt out of childhood vaccinations for BS reasons. Itās clear that we have unbelievable technological solutions for stopping these things and absolutely zero political will to implement any of them.

I work with some people on the front lines of variant monitoring. Delta has outcompeted lambda ~everywhere in the US. Iāll check in and see if thereās evidence of mu starting to outcompete delta. It was pretty much inevitable that mu was going to be found here, given our severe lack of travel restrictions, but itās only all that scary if it starts outcompeting delta.
