COVID-19: Chapter 8 - Ongoing source of viral information, and a little fun

Maybe it is more dangerous to the kids, but the danger of the kids picking up the virus and bringing home to kill the grandparents should be much lower due to vaccines.

At least 10 of my nurse friends have shared this on Facebookā€¦ the sentiment rings pretty true.

How about instead of praying, people advocate for hazard pay and pay raises for nurses?

~200 dead a day in Florida, ~10 a day in New York.

100 percent. Less dangerous in the sense that they probably wonā€™t kill mom or dad this year, but if they really donā€™t do 5-12 vaccines until mid winter I fully expect my kids catch COVID is the base case outcome. Very very few remote options here as of early August.

Not sure what the alternative is as I donā€™t have any conviction that 2022 is going to be any better.

I was gonna take my kid to get her hair cut by the same woman who owns the same salon weā€™ve both been using for years. I was just informed that the appointment had to be canceled because the woman has Covid. She has cut my hair three times over the past two months, and she wore no mask any of those times. I assumed she was vaccinated because she always seemed pretty smart and normal and somewhat of a lefty (she had an obnoxious Trumpstain renting a chair from her that she finally had to let go a few years back). CDC guidelines said no mask for the vaccinated so I figured it was fine. Butnahhhh. She isnā€™t vaccinated. Thereā€™s no fking telling how many people in that salon she personally infected. She has a lot of old ladies who get their hair done there, she could literally have killed someone. Iā€™m beyond furious. She should have her license pulled. But muh rights.

Shes an economistā€¦ which in America makes you a prominent voice on public health theory for some reason.

Great job New York Times and everyone else giving Emily Oster a platform to spew bullshit to millions of people despite an obvious lack of qualifications.

OFS and OFB are tied together almost one to one. With people being pushed back to their workplaces, remote learning resources are dead in the water because there will be no one at home to work with the kids and be there during the day.

Also running both remote and in person classes is very difficult on school personnel without additional resources and staffing for the schools.

Workplace push is kind of grinding to a halt for white collar workers. I expect my full office reopening gets pushed back from its September plan and am hearing of a lot of places pushing it into 2022 now. Delta will likely make the Sept push for normalcy untenable.

A hack who has been really wrong about transmission in youth

My brother has to go back to work in a few weeks, no vax requirement, no masks. Heā€™s irate to the point of just quitting.

Yeah the owner of my company (who originally was a very traditional ā€œwant to see asses in the seatsā€ kind of guy previously) has thankfully been super patient about things and has delayed even the ā€˜softā€™ start of people coming in on a rotating basis thanks to delta (and this is in NJ where things arenā€™t even that bad).

As an IT guy Iā€™m still physically here almost every day, but I actually prefer that especially given the nice quiet atmosphere. On any given day itā€™s usually me, my boss, and at most 3-4 other people scattered over 3 floors.

yeah, this is a huge tell, itā€™s essentially the ā€œI have black friendsā€ rhetorical device

They were planning a 30% in-office return to work this fall, but thatā€™s on hold here now too. I live 15 minutes from work and go in as needed (about 75 to 90% of my job can be done from home, depending on the time of year and what projects we have going on). We briefly had a no mask for vaccinated employees thing going on from mid-July to early August, but Delta means the masks go back on.

They originally had a safety glasses requirement at all times as well, even for office employees at their desk, which thankfully is now gone. That was sort of ridiculous.

My kids did in-person school last year with mask requirements. The school was pretty aggressive about closing certain classrooms and/or the entire school for weeks if things got bad, which they did a few times. Iā€™m torn. August 25th was supposed to be the first time in 10 years where all my kids are in 5-day per week full day school. Thatā€™s a massive milestone that may be pretty life changing for our family. I still want it to happen, but we need mask requirements and continued aggressive mitigation and contact tracing. My kids will be first in line for the vax once itā€™s approved for their ages, I can tell you that.

Not saying a lot, but FL is more vaccinated than most states. Ranks like 19th.
