These threads tilt me more and more as it seems so easy for everyone in the entite forum to get their jab and yet even though I’m supposedly in a country that’s ahead of the game I’m not gonna see one for months. I don’t even care that much about going back out and doing stuff I just don’t want to catch the damn thing when I’m so close.

The U.S. sucks at a ton these days, but vaccine distribution is not one of those things.

everyone i know in their 30s got hit hard by that 2nd dose. older folks barely felt it

I’m 48, got whalloped. Wife is a year older, was even worse. Our 16 year old had definite side effects, but not as severe as ours. Made me consider the possibility that we were all asymptomatic carriers at some point.

Deaths are not going to be that high. THe highest-risk populations have decent vaccine uptake. Covid is just going to be like the deadliest flu season we’ve ever had times two, but like every year from now until evolutionary pressures do their thing.

I understand the visceral reactions, and some restrictions on the unvaccinated are likely and perhaps welcome over time, but I do ask that you rethink advocating forced vaccination of minorities as part of US policy. I didn’t mean for it to be a gotcha or anything, just laying out that forced vaccination has complications, it isn’t a simple policy.

Much of this here is basically venting in earned frustration at an inept US response, but what you are advocating for is really not a progressive policy and forced vaccination is not really part of the public health playbook for a successful vaccine rollout.

The obvious answer is to just pay people to get vaccinated. $1,000 per shot, $2,000 if you take a one-shot vaccine. I mean hell we just gave it away as stimulus, this can be stimulus part 2 that also helps with covid directly. Call it a tax break to pretend to be bipartisan or some shit.

New variants will be a killer if we stall out on vaccine compliance.

I have faith in the MRNA science and our improving ability over time to quickly reformulate the mrna vaccines to handle variants as they pop up.

Yeah, me getting worse side effects on the first shot made me think I’ve maybe already had it. Well, that and a quarter of the people where I work getting covid diagnoses.

500k seems pretty high once vaccine penetration is 60 or 65 percent or wherever it is going to get to.

This seems right to me. Once everyone who wants a vaccine gets it and we’re fully OFB, why wouldn’t we expect the virus to just burn itself out among the unvaccinated until we get to herd immunity?

I don’t see any reason to think Covid is mutating faster than the Spanish Flu in 1918, and that went away after a couple of years w/o any vaccine. By everything I’ve read covid seems to be on the slower end of viruses wrt mutation.
