I think there’s room to hate the game but not the players. Like, even when there are clinics distributing shots in or proximal to majority-minority areas, privileged white folks soaking up the extras because they’re the ones with the luxury to wait in line for them still kinda sucks, even if they’re acting both rationally and ethically. Turning the line-standers away doesn’t really help poorer POC get their shots when they may not have the time to take off work or the ability to schedule an appointment amidst irregular work hours. Solving that is really hard, though.

How long is it likely to be until we have clear and consistent messaging about the ability of vaccines to prevent transmission of the virus?

Virus is forever changing. It may be irresponsible to state vaccine known good against transmission of all variants when this is unknown

huge problem to say, “Yes, go get vaccinated, but also you won’t be able to change much about your way of life because we’re not certain that it can limit transmission.”

I mean you’d think ‘get vaccine and you won’t die from covid (all variants known to date)’ would be a good enough enticement to get a (free) jab

At this point, there’s nothing unethical about getting shots in arms. Won’t say a damn thing to anyone getting one. We’re at the point where there’s been plenty of time for the most vulnerable. Every person who has gotten a shot is a net benefit to out society.

I am seeing a lot of seemingly reasonable people acting as if vaccines simply prevent serious infections, but who are confident that they don’t prevent/limit transmission.

I don’t know where people are getting this idea from. I have no idea how the virus can transmit if your body is immune to it. It can’t reproduce without taking over your cells.

Stopped by the local pop-up clinic. They won’t know until the end of the day if they’ll have extras and they’re not keeping a list, but the guy was super nice and said “come find me at 5:30, I’ll remember you”. It felt encouraging.

Its X number of days after the second dose, right? something like 14-21 after the second dose?

Also, I would totally be going to play, but with my wife being in group 2, I will probably wait until she is fully vaccinated before I do.

Stones is likely open. I know they had to shut when we went Purple, but being back in Red/Orange they are allowed to open.

That being said, I have confidence issues with playing there after the Postle stuff.

Covid: UK Biobank scans aim to reveal health legacy

UK Biobank is a biomedical database with medical images, genetic data and health information on 500,000 people.

About 1,500 people who have had Covid will be scanned again to check how organs are affected by infection.

The study will look at people with asymptomatic Covid, and others who had severe disease.

Brain scans will also be carried out to try to aid understanding of long Covid.

“It will enable researchers to investigate whether the effects of the virus on different organs of the body vary between how severe your infection was in the first place,” explains Prof Allen.

Detailed scans of 1,500 Biobank members who have not been infected will also be recorded.

This does not sound like a particularly good study fwiw, at least based on this description.
