COVID-19: Chapter 7 - Brags, Beats, and Variants

There’s a pop-up vaccination clinic giving shots tomorrow and Friday around the corner from my house, literally walking distance. I’m going to mosey over there in the morning and let them know that if they have any extras at the end of the day I can be there at a moment’s notice. Can’t hurt.

I don’t mean to be braggadocious, but coming into the office in the morning and not feeling intense hatred or angst is one of the most incredible emotions. It’s crazy how much my psyche changed, but it feels good to not worry as much anymore.

Im looking forward to this in general.

Less looking forward to returning to the office. Man, do I love WFH.

75 percent of my office has had both shots and 100 percent have had at least one. Part of that was me convincing the holdouts. I’m quite persuasive.

I’ll be shifting my vote to one shot tomorrow.

Pretty damn happy. Totally didn’t expect to start my vaccine this early.

Was it just a one day thing?

One of my sisters is currently eligible in Pennsylvania (Phase 1A) and the other is in 1B. I tried to convince them to get it but they can’t be budged off of the “vaccine might cause infertility” thing no matter what I say. At least one will likely be mandated to get a vaccine to go OFB though due to her job responsibilities. But if not, it’ll be hard to really feel any sympathy for them if they get it bad.

They’re normally diligent, responsible people who don’t buy into conspiracy bullshit and anti-vax propaganda. But misinformation is a powerful tool especially when it comes from a person who provides the illusion of authority.

My mother in NY just became eligible today. She seemed wishy-washy on getting it but her partner is pretty hardcore on getting the vaccine ASAP so I’m sure she’ll go as well. Given that her partner is a full-on racist Trump lover, I figured that he’d be an anti-vaxxer but he’s in line with all of you on COVID.

Stories like this are just making me even more fucking furious. I am probably months away from a vaccine and there are people out there declining one that is immediately available to them.

fyi probably not true if you’re in america

I want to believe that’s true but I just don’t. Even if Biden’s prediction of every adult by the end of May comes true that’s still 2.5 months away.

FWIW you don’t need to take me particularly seriously right now, I’m mostly just venting because I’m fucking sick of this shit.

One hour. I think it was 65 people with spouses. Came in at 3:15, three nurses and a pharmacist. Were giving shots at 3:30 and gone by 4:30. Everyone just had to fill out a form, get the shot, wait 15 minutes. They had three doses left open and were on the phone trying to get them to people as they were leaving. Pretty impressive operation.

I’m scheduled to get Pfizer on Saturday, they just moved to group 1C here which includes BMI>30, eating those doughnuts finally paid off

Of all the absurd things to believe this one seems pretty far out there. Why would you even think there is a mechanism for this to happen??

They probably listen to Alex Jones

It’s paying off for the second time, they were delicious.

Well we don’t know what the vaccine does for sure and we know covid is fake.

I am irrationality terrified I’m going to be the only one asked to prove I’m in the group and end up in jail for the rest of my life

It’s pretty common among antivax people, both the RFK types and Christian fundies type

has anyone here had the J&J?

Nah. They’re not very politically active. Pretty anti-Trump but more center/center-left.

They have a friend who’s a nurse working with COVID patients in an ICU and she was the one who told them about the infertility thing. Despite my best efforts, apparently nurse = vaccinologist to them.
