One of the things that helped keep me sane throughout last spring and summer was seeing how few UP members got COVID. While the world around us burned it was reassuring to know that the majority here who were taking precautions seriously fared well. All of us being smart, following science, and not being selfish pricks worked. Obviously we couldn’t make it through an entire pandemic with zero pozzes, but we ran so far ahead of the national/global averages and seeing that seriously made it easier for me to continue with the strict protocols.
So happy every time I see one of you post that you or a loved one got vaccinated. Please keep that itt. We deserve a little happiness in the 7th chapter of this nightmare.
Yeah, the quote Dan posted is correct in the world of the paper which is one where they (roughly) predicted 2021 based on data from 2020. If the UK hadn’t vaccinated well and taken strict measures then it would have had a terrible time of it in 2021.
As it is the UK did vaccinate well and lockdown quite seriously (at least so far), and part of the reason that paper seems a good one is that their predicted scenario for good vaccination plus serious lockdown looks pretty similar to the UK’s actual death curve so far (both peaking at around 1250 per day 7DMA in mid to late January.)
I’ve been trying to figure out whether this is a good or bad thing. CT’s positivity rate today was <2%. From my own personal observations over the last few months is that mask/distance compliance everywhere has been 100%. Literally the only people I’ve seen without a mask on in months is people out on a running/walking trail and even then most did. I don’t expect that part to ease up at all.
Also, my understanding of some of the OFB for restaurants is that you can have full capacity but your tables still have to be socially distanced. So realistically you’re not going to be allowed to have the max number of people in there that you could normally fit anyway.
I’ve checked like 1000 times - always zero appts. I’d click anything that came available. I’d like to figure out if there’s a pattern of when they dump new appts into the system. I’m going to get up at 3am and check it.
So, maybe this is idiotic, but I wanted to get UP’s thoughts on this. I’ve been pretty strictly quarantining for a year. I refuse to play live poker here in the private games, and the poker rooms are still close. I got my second dose of Moderna last week. I got an offer from Aria for $500 free play, $250 food, comped suite, no resort fees. Is it idiotic if I go to vegas in a few weeks to put in some hours at live PLO? Looks like 5/5 is running at Aria daily. I haven’t played live poker in a year, and I’m doing literally fuck all here. Bravo says it’s 8 handed, masks required, plexiglass dividers, no foodservice.
Already have a trip booked for October with my partner.
Yeah, FWIW, I don’t think there was actually an appointment earlier, I just saw the site listed with the date in blue, which should mean there was an appointment recently, but possibly not, the software is junk.
I wasn’t trying to mislead you, but I think my information might be out of date this week since so many more people became available. I apologize for the misinformation as you are closer to the situation than I am.
I think you’re much more likely to get sick than to unwittingly spread the virus. If you go, I’d still wear a mask in any sort of public setting. I’d only eat food in my room.
