COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

Nevada is getting to that level, too.

School is supposed to start next week here but now I’ve just read that some school bus routes are being cancelled. Apparently there is a driver shortage because few people want to be a school bus driver during a pandemic.

It’s really mind boggling how much the powers that be want school to happen when it’s gong to be a complete disaster.

Sounds like they are testing too much and need to reduce testing to reduce cases.

My aunt is positive

She thought she had bad sinus infection and turns out it’s covid

Her 25ish year old son had it a few months ago, so she didn’t get it from him but separately.

Turns out people who don’t think it’s too bad end up getting it before people like Unstuckers.

Her younger daughters both have underlying conditions so I’m hoping they didn’t get it from her.

The good news about playing it safe is there will theoretically be more and better treatments the longer you wait to get it.

Actually, testing was (and still is to an extent) a huge problem. They supposedly have the facilities to process 20,000 tests per day but only recently have they gone up to 10,000. I mean this could be because they don’t have the staff to conduct that many tests but if they didn’t have it, they should have.

EDIT: Nearly broke 800 new cases today. Got to 798. Fourth record-breaking day in a row.

Since they run way fewer tests on weekends than they do now, there won’t be anymore record-breaking days until at least Monday.

Haven’t given a Japan update in a while. The best thing I can say is that cases have been trending downward. Following a peak in August of over 1,000 cases a day, we’re currently at around 600 per day.

Locally, despite near zero Covid infections, mask wearing, even during the peak summer heat, is near 100% in places where people gather. That said, It appears that many, including me, are slowly venturing back out to restaurants, cafes, etc.

I may have to make a trip into Tokyo at the end of this month, which would be my first since January, so hoping this downward trend continues.

Please read whole thread. Damn passive aggressive Minnesotans. Lived there twelve years. Sounds classic. They can be the only other car On the highway and they will not move over to allow a merge.

I was just making a joke

Anywhere with the problems you are seeing is likely not testing enough

Omg

Scariest thread in awhile

Just found out I’m required to self-administer a nasal swab test weekly. Anyone who’s done this have advice? Sounds unpleasant.

I pick my nose pretty much all the time. Should be NBD.

YMMV

I didn’t find it that bad but others thought it was torture

Hopefully you’re experience will be more in line with mine

It looks like we’ve entered Part 3 of wave 1 of the pandemic. I think it started either 9/2 or 9/3 in a very clear way. Today was the first day we’ve been over 50k cases since 8/15. That’s slightly misleading due to Illinois dumping 5,594 positives on many more tests than usual today.

37 states had a positive pct. of 5% or higher on either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Some places are through the roof.

The ones that were at or over 14% that returned negative results on either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday were: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming

A ‘fun fact’ is Massachusetts, the state I suspect has the most unreliable testing results, removed over 7,700 positives on Wednesday.

Illinois dropped over 100k more than normal tests today. Is it pool testing?

I’m not looking to seeing what next week looks like, even though the numbers are now really skewed for the measurement period due to the Massachusetts positives removal.

There are justifiable exceptions to being sad about coronavirus.

It is nice and seemingly rare that we get to celebrate the fact that the virus does not discriminate.

Hope he dies but it takes some time.

Hmm.

So of the 3 phases of wave 1, will the Hurp Derp Back to School phase be the biggest for new cases? It will have to be, right?

Phase 1: Hurp Derp Who Saw This Coming? Smallest wave with highest deaths.

Phase 2: Hurp Derp Liberation! Medium wave with medium deaths.

Phase 3: Hurp Derp Back To School - biggest wave with lowest deaths.

That has to be it right? Will we hit 100k cases/day and 2k deaths/day?
