COVID-19: Chapter 5 - BACK TO SCHOOL

Cormorbidity OR “old,” whatever the definition of that is

They just happened to have covid AND pneumonia/flu

Yep, this is everywhere today. Unfollow, unfriend, etc

What’s best is heavily skewed when 1k people die per day.

I always figured Trump would announce a vaccine in October.

This is like the only RWNJ on my FB feed and I don’t ever have to interact with her so I remain her friend so I have some window into the latest derposohere talking points.

I’ve gone the opposite way. I’ve grown a beard. My facial hair grows like I’m barely pubescent, so it’s taken a couple months for it to not look revolting. I can make mini handlebars now. I want to shave, but my son is egging me on.

My mom is horrified. My dad is entertained, but refuses to join in the facial hair growing.

Which quote makes you the maddest?

I’m sure you can think of other ways to reduce deaths

Omg

The person on the Board of Education suggested students change seats every 14 minutes to avoid the CDC’s 15 minute exposure guideline so nobody will have to be quarantined when someone in their class tests positive.

That anyone seems willing to do? Nope not really.

You think enough people are willing to get an unproven vaccine this year to lower deaths below 1k/day??

This is just a political stunt. When enough time has passed to know it’s safe, I’ll take the vaccine as will most non-anti-vaxxers.

Not many will take it this year before we know it’s safe.

I was once told by a person that I wouldn’t give Trump credit if he cured cancer in the olden days of probably sometime in late 2017. It was a dumb statement by a bad person, but here’s our chance for Trump to cure something that is becoming more devastating than cancer to see if we give him any credit!

He won’t be curing anything.

This is such a good example of how increasingly bubble-fied we are becoming.

He wouldn’t even have been curing cancer in that scenario, but that’s just how these people feel.

I guess you can’t ever totally prove a negative, but presumably there must be reasonable ways of making sure drugs are safe or we’d be waiting decades for new drugs to be approved. If it’s passed Phase I, then the big question is not whether it’s safe but whether it’s effective. Rushing out a vaccine that isn’t effective could lead to an enormous clusterfuck.

You don’t have to wait decades

But 1-3 months is too soon.

You can take that risk if you want. I’ll wait another few months. It may mean no free sweet tea refills for a few more months, but I’ll have to manage.

Whether it’s announced as an October surprise or not until early December after Trump has lost (so not political), I’m still gonna wait until mid next year to be sure.

If safety is your only concern, the drug has been proven safe already.

The bigger question of net benefit is the phase III question.

And yes, I think people will line up to the streets to get a vaccine that got a EUA. They sure lined up for HCQ, steroids and AC.

Time is not the main issue here, sample size is.

I’m not aware of some reasonable risk to be concerned about 6 months later with a vaccine either.
