Florida reporting 5,886 new cases and 276 deaths.
That’s a new record in daily deaths for them.
It’s pretty hard for me to see how college getting back on campus and schools being back in session don’t result in a massive next spike. Has anyone even heard a half-plausible theory how this doesn’t happen?

Why would anyone have a theory for why something that will obviously happen won’t happen? Just slump into acceptance that we are going to do this the worst possible way for both the body count and the economy because our party couldn’t beat Donald Trump in an election almost 4 years ago. I wish I had actually enjoyed 2016.

I guess I figured the right wing hive mind would have some new theory on how this won’t make things worse. The only thing I seem to be seeing is the “kids need to be in school regardless of consequences” stuff which I guess must be persuasive to lots of people.

According to The New York Post , several recent TikToks have shown presumably underage teens giving themselves old-age makeovers, putting on wigs or scarves, and wearing face masks so they looked old enough to buy alcohol (and possibly old enough to get the Senior Discount at Wendy’s, although no one seems to have tried that yet). In a now-private video, one user went all in on being elderly, and used a walker—complete with grandma-approved tennis balls on the legs—when she went into a California store to buy booze. The cashier, she wrote, "was worried she wouldn’t b[e] able to carry [the bottles] herself.”

Persuasive to people who need to believe it to avoid a 300 car trainload of cognitive dissonance… yes. Persuasive to humans who aren’t in that situation? No.
So… what you’re saying is, its time to open the schools
There’s also a fair amount of “put the kids in schools so they’re not stolen by Tom Hanks and used for adrenochrome” floating around.

Bought that for my mother over 10 years ago when my father suddenly died.
She says that it helped her out of her depression but given the religious overtones of the book I’m beginning to wonder if it did more harm than good.
I guess it is a sign of a civilized society, but part of me really wishes that people just grouped up and beat his ass down, a la someone trying to rush the cockpit on a commercial flight. Anti-mask terrorists deserve the same treatment, imo.

I’ve spent some time thinking about what sort of language can get this type of person to throw the first punch so that I have a legal excuse to hurt him.

Florida nearly 6,000 cases on 35,000 cases is still a 17% positive rate. Florida is processing about half as many tests/day as they were two weeks ago. Maybe that is fewer people seeking tests but that positivity rate still being that high does not seem like a real good sign.
I can’t believe this is a meaningful statistic. Either they have 35,000 new tests administered or 6,000 new cases reported, but given the lag in testing there’s no way that they had 35,000 tests yesterday and know the results for all of them.
