COVID-19 (2): Turns out it's going to be pretty bad actually

Yeah you’d have to check around - look for semi-shady companies that do paternity testing and job-screen drug testing.

I don’t feel strongly either way about Musk, but going to Mars is not stupid.

1,581 is the number now

That sounds like it could be right in the ballpark in a population with a good amount of comorbidities living in a lot of pollution. Also remember actual deaths from C19 are certainly a lot higher.

8k deaths in the city, 11k deaths in the state.

Cuomo was also telling people to keep going to restaurants in mid-March.

meanwhile Inslee announced school closures in Washington for the rest of the year a week ago

Inslee >>>> Cuomo

Cuomo just gets more good press because he goes after Trump.

Food Not Bombs in LA is short of food. Usually labor would be what comes up short. Farmers markets and “Largest supplier of rice/beans/onions in bulk” are closing down.

I have a question re: hand soap. I’ve always believed that hand soap that doesn’t say “anti microbial” is worthless. This isn’t really based on direct knowledge, just something I’d heard long ago, but never really vetted.

Does anyone know whether soap that isn’t labeled as anti microbial is effective against COVID 19, or anything for that matter, lol?

I would think it’s pretty effective. No specific kill agent but biological things are protein and lipids, the very type of matter you normally wash off your hands.

Well here a big chunk of missing deaths. At least 10%.

Florida judge to lawyers: ‘Put some clothes on for Zoom hearings’

A judge in Broward County, Florida, has complained that lawyers are not dressing or grooming appropriately before video-conference legal hearings.

“It is remarkable how many ATTORNEYS appear inappropriately on camera,” Circuit Judge Dennis Bailey wrote in a letter posted on the Weston Bar Association website.

“We’ve seen many lawyers in casual shirts and blouses, with no concern for ill-grooming," he wrote adding that one male lawyer appeared shirtless and another lawyer appeared to still be in bed.

“And putting on a beach cover-up won’t cover up you’re poolside in a bathing suit. So, please, if you don’t mind, let’s treat court hearings as court hearings, whether Zooming or not.”

Judge Bailey told the Miami Herald he wrote the memo just to provide an update on how the court was dealing with the move to online hearings.

Even two weeks makes a huge difference given the exponential growth in cases.

Just watched the last John Oliver piece and he showed an EMT worker who has no health insurance because it doesnt come with the job and the marketplace is not affordable. Just just find out amazing shit you couldnt make up every day in the US of A.

NYC has a high percentage of people with comorbidities and a lot of air pollution? That doesn’t sound right to me. Certainly not compared to other cities.

I thought we were supposed to be phasing out the antibacterial soaps because all they were really accomplishing is creating strains of bacteria that were resistant to what was in the soap.

Yeah, marketing special “antimicrobial” soap was a brilliant sales gimmick. Just use regular soap.

@beetlejuice, looks like lying face down really was the key after all.

Antimicrobial soap is worthless for killing microbes and possibly actively harmful by increasing the rate of antimicrobial resistant strains in the wild.

It’s the other way around. All soap is pretty much equally anti microbial. It’s just another label they can put on the same thing to take up more shelf space.
