COVID-19 (2): Turns out it's going to be pretty bad actually

I did, too. It was nice knowing y’all.

I have what’s probably a dumb question. How much of a threat are you to others if you are outside without a mask, but you don’t talk to anyone, keep your distance, and breathe through your nose? Do we have any idea?

MORE PEOPLE (in the US) ARE INFECTED TODAY THAN AT ANY POINT IN THIS PANDEMIC

Yet the politicians are all focused on how do we open. It’s insane I tell you. INSANE.

Italy, France, US all reporting pretty large numbers today. The IHME projections are going to look way too optimistic soon. Italy and France are already passing their projections of total deaths from the models being used just a few days ago.

We are at 2% of the number of daily tests we need to have a handle on this.

So why not open everything up?

“What’s the worst that can happen?” Donald J. Trump

I’ve been told by a highly reputable and knowledgeable source that deaths will cap out around 47,000 so let’s open up.

Billionaires got their bailout. Now lets open up the economy and let the poors die.

IMHE has always been total shit for a lot of reasons. The fact our Federal government is making decisions based on that is completely ridiculous but par for the course.

Italy’s new cases have been finally falling though - from hanging around 4k for a while to quickly dropping to 2500.

Deaths should probably fall commensurately in 1-3 weeks. Still high obviously.

Unfortunately the US is the place where the rich and skinny and poor are fat. This will end badly.

PA legislature (R majority but not super majority) looking to pass a bill to broaden what is a necessary business. Ds all voting no. Presumably Gov Wolf will veto.

I’d put gyms in tier 1. Heavy exhaling and inhaling akin to that choir.

Keeeeeed- better have data before we make assumptions about kids not spreading and when was that last time you looked at the teachers union. Not the healthiest lot, at least in the Midwest.

You know what they say when you ASSUME

it fuckin’ kills people

My amateur lolcharts are projecting under 50k dead, but I’m not going to say I have any real confidence in them, esp if we start opening things up. I think under 100k is a reasonable guess.

Don’t worry more billionaire bucks are coming but we definitely need the workers back to the grindstone to pay for it.

I made a list of major open questions right now:

  1. Why do people test positive weeks after symptoms go away?
  2. Can you get it again?
  3. Is the most contagious phase actually the week before symptoms start?
  4. Are some people also contagious long after symptoms go away?
  5. Is inhalation of breath micro-droplets a significant vector?
  6. Why do some people who test positive show low or no antibody levels?
  7. Are these people basically super-spreader carriers?
  8. How long can a person continue to be contagious w/little or no symptoms? Months? Forever?
  9. Will antibody tests ever be accurate/useful?

Seems like there are some more I’m forgetting.

We are hitting 50k by the end of April or maybe the first week in May at worst. Several states outside of NY are still having daily deaths heading the wrong direction fast. If we reopen up it will be in the hundreds of thousands. We are at 2000+ deaths a day with really no end in sight outside of the weekend dips.

That being said I do appreciate you posting these. We just are maybe to the peak in what? 1 state? And if we reopen this is going nuclear fast and we will probably easily be into the several hundred thousands of deaths this year range.

I’ll take the over 50k and give 2-1 to anyone who wants it.

Yeah I think it will hit in the second wave. But I’ll go $100 to your $200 if you want.

I am convinced this second back to work wave is going to be worse than the first wave.

We are not prepared, at all, to do the things necessary to manage this with everyone going back to work.

But so many people are not taking it seriously.
