Makes no sense. Doesnā€™t the latest school close early June? Seems like a huge waste of money and creating unnecessary risk for a month kids absolutely will not take the least bit seriously.

Yup. UBI + Government minimum healthcare is how you keep the train on the rails long term. Iā€™d be fine with getting rid of minimum wage in exchange as long as UBI is enough to pay rent, spend 75 a week per person on groceries, and cover utilities. Workers will do just fine negotiating pay for themselves when they have the option to just walk away.

I negotiate for a living. A negotiation you canā€™t walk away from isnā€™t really a negotiation. If youā€™re in a situation where you have to earn money or be homeless and there is a huge supply of people with your skills youā€™re going to get paid the legal minimum an employer can pay. In that situation a minimum wage is absolutely required. I want to abolish that situation about as badly as I want anything.

And Iā€™ve given a lot of thought to the idea that a lot of people will just take their UBI and go play video games or whatever while living a very cheap lifeā€¦ my reaction is: good. These people currently work only because they are absolutely forced to. They donā€™t want to be at work, they resent everyone for making them work, they are miserable, and they do a fantastic job of making everyone else around them miserable as well. I want them to go out and live the life they want to lead. If they find something productive that they enjoy thatā€™s obviously great, but honestly their lifeā€™s journey isnā€™t my business. I donā€™t care what they do even a little bit.

What Iā€™m quite certain of is that a huge % of my daily problems come from the fact that someone I was dealing with didnā€™t give a shit about their job because they are actively trying to do the minimum required to not get fired (or even just not get fired quickly) and as a result find ways to screw me over out of sheer negligence.

Dealing with other people who are under duress sucks. A lot of other people seem to care more about the morality of people ā€˜earningā€™ stuff than they do about actual productivity. If thereā€™s one thing I know in my bones its that these people do more harm than good and actually produce no productivity at all. The rest of us would be better off if they went home and played video games from now on.

Instead of listening to the daily briefings I now read this thread, and listen to fiction books on audio instead. Very +life ev for sure. Currently working through Count of Monte Cristo for the first time, protip there are a ton of free ā€œaudiobooksā€ just posted straight to YouTube.
