Coronavirus (COVID-19)

don’t know if the Ebola epidemic was overblown exactly, more than 10,000 people died.

Errr maybe poor word choice but ebola’s method of transmission and lethality make it difficult to spread from it’s point of origin, meaning a full blown pandemic was incredibly unlikely.

Right now it seems like we’re hearing more about people dying than we are about people recovering. I suspect this is like most respiratory viruses in that they are more lethal to the elderly (who often can’t cough out all the junk from their lungs) and those with compromised immune systems. I’d like to hear more about healthier people who have recovered…and how long it lasted?..how severe it was? etc.

Was just at six flags magic mountain and have a sore throat.

Not gonna lie, slightly-pretty nervous right now

Idk pretty sure they never talk about that stuff, they just give the total cases and the number dead so you can insinuate that the vast majority of people who didn’t die survived.

Master I don’t think you’d have a sore throat this quickly.

I read somewhere that sore throat isn’t one of the symptoms.

People aren’t interested in hearing about stories of recovery. They want to panic and be scared and hear about the next potential pandemic.

If you’re an adult and your immune system isn’t compromised you’ll almost certainly be fine

Another confirmed case, this time in Arizona. Up to 5 in the U.S.

You don’t know this at all. SARS killed healthy people. I don’t think there’s anything close to enough information to say anything like this yet.

I thought this had already killed at least one young healthy person in China.

There have been anecdotal reports of young healthy people dying in Wuhan.

This is very accurate.

My friend is recovering and if you aren’t a child, elderly, or immunocompromised, it’s a lot like having the flu if caught early.

If you wait and it gets into your lower respiratory tract, that’s when it becomes an issue for even healthy people.

True. True. Silly of me. I’m fighting off a virus now, so I’m hoping it might build my immunity a bit before I’m exposed to Corona.

True, hence “almost certainly”

The “if caught early” and “if you wait’ doesn’t make a whole lot of sense here. There’s no treatment for it except supportive care.

I feel a little bad because I kinda sorta was rooting for a pandemic to take out a bunch of boomers in order to save the planet.

Now that it’s a real possibility I really hope it doesn’t. Especially since it’s also dangerous to the young. There are lots of good boomers and obviously pandemics are indiscriminate.

Assuming case 1: Stockpile as many resources as you can and attempt to hole up in your home limiting public contact. Assuming case 2: continue life as normal but exercise increased precautions like constant hand washing/sanitizing and avoiding public gatherings. The problem is, you won’t know which case it is until it’s possibly too late.

Meh. I’m merely going based on what my infected friend said. I’m sure he heard it from whoever treated him.

Yeah it’s bad but not SARS bad.
