Cooking Good Food - Ramens of the day

This sounds like a dish specifically designed for a “female palate” [heteronormative sic] and pairs my least favourite cut with a gross sauce. “Tender filets” have been pawned off on American women for like 70 years. The idea that the gentle lady wants the tenderest most expensive cut always made me roll my eyes. Splitting a porterhouse with the Mrs. and all that jazz.

No, you mix/toss ingredients in a bowl to make a cohesive dish. You dont just place them next to each other and have your tummy mix them for you.

Man, it was her lunch at home with some ingredients she had.

I feel like this is the kind of thread where advice is welcome, but just shitting on someone because you don’t like their meal is unnecessary. And I love shitting on Lapka!

Notwithstanding my previous comment, yes filet mignon with balsamic glazed strawberries does sound awful.

That wasnt my intention at all. I was just making general observation about salads. I stated twice its my problem.

I didnt mean to shit or offend anyone. My apologies

Steak should not be paired with sweet flavours in my opinion.

I like to consider my plate of nachos a salad. Let’s not ruin that by providing a more concrete definition.

Gotcha.

California’s the largest producer of strawberries in the US, I lived in Watsonville for a few years and was able to buy them from fruit stands for ridiculously cheap.

Sadly because they pick them so early and force them to ripen when we get them here in Canada they are often wooden and tasteless.

Seasonal strawberries are pretty great and they’re available for a couple of months.

For sure we mainline in season. Just wish we could get good ones out of season. All the fruit we get here outside summer is pretty terrible.

We have about a 4 month season for fruits and berries in NH but it’s only a handful of things at a time during each of those months.

Yeah, same here. I say enjoy them whole they last and subsist on grubs and roots the other 8 months as nature intended.

Or beer. Lots of good beer year round.

About 6-7 years ago my wife and I flew to the states and did a road trip around New England. We were driving around the berkshires and stopped at like 5 stars place on yelp. It looked like an old time diner so my wife got a kick out of it.

Cant remember what we ordered, but the sides option included fries or macaroni salad. I wanted something fresh so i ordered what i assumed was a pasta salad. You know, some cold short pasta with greens, tomatoes, some feta cheese maybe in a nice olive oil dressing.

As you probably know, we got a bowl of elbow pasta in mayonnaise soup with frozen carrots. I eat just about anything but i couldnt even bring myself to try.

So yeah, salads mean different things to different people in different places.

Good macaroni salad is actually not bad, especially with BBQ. But yeah it is a food with a very low floor.

Out of season foods are terrible because they’re, you know, not in season. Demanding fresh strawberries in February in Alberta is huge part of why our food systems are so dysfunctional and damaging.

I know a lot of Cobb salads are sold unmixed, but the Brown Derby, which has one of the better claims as to having invented it, serves it well mixed.

But @clovis8 needs to dip something into the molten chocolate during his sex orgies. And he’s not making that mistake again.

If you don’t live in California/Texas I think most nerds are figuring out that frozen fruit wins most of the year, much like how we now know the best tomatoes usually come out of a can. There’s still carbon footprint issues but whatever.
