I would argue that nothing he will ever do will be as popular as Ghangum Style, which is close enough to a OHW for me.
Not having a song as popular as their most popular song would make every artist a OHW, no?
As a nit I appreciate where you are coming from. But when the hit is several orders of magnitudes different from their average popularity I think it is a different story than when their âhitâ got 10,000 more plays than their average song.
I couldâve named 5/6 of them. I think 1.6B YouTube views is enough to have the 2nd song count as a hit too.
Eve6 guy was a good follow on twitter (and is now a good follow on BlueSky). This made me laugh out loud back in the day.
I stand corrected, I never saw any of their other songs.
To almost everyone. The Gangnam style guy is a one hit wonder
Like most people here - if they even know them.
Walk the moon is a one hit wonder (the dumb dance song)
Me. Have you heard Surrender by walk the moon?
No one is saying they donât have more good songs just 99% of the world know the one song
Yeah, I dont think Wang Chung still tours today in their 70s because they enjoy playing their music so much.
Maybe im wrong and musicians will tour until they die for love of the game and not because they need some scratch to get by
Honestly. Can anyone here name another song by this cat?
Iâm guessing Psy has more than one hit song in Korea.
I donât live in Korea
I feel like in order to be a true one-hit wonder you have to have only one hit song in your native country. Like Vanilla Ice.
Plus they didnât list Los Del Rio the ultimate OHW
Decentish break down here. The amount of âpointsâ you get can vary a lot based on the structure of your deal and whether you wrote the song (vs just performing it), but I think the basic math checks out for most label artists.
I would argue the Gangham guy is a 0 hit wonder
Are The White Stripes a one hit wonder?
Maybe in a very literal sense. I think Hendrix only ever had one top 40 hit? But I donât think The White Stripes or Hendrix are what people think of when they say âone-hit wonder.â
People can name more than seven nation army would be my guess
They were already big when that song came out.
I wouldnât consider them a one hit wonder, but Iâm also constantly surprised by how bad many people are at identifying bands and song titles. Like, there are millions of people who might recognize the riff to Seven Nation Army if you played it for them (probably because they heard it while watching football), but wouldnât be able to name the band or the title of the song. I wouldnât consider Nirvana a one hit wonder, but tons of people couldnât name a song other than Smells Like Teen Spirit (and a bunch more wouldnât even get the title, but would just mumble their version of the chorus)
