The Alien Enemies Act stuff that Trump is now bringing up at every rally is actually pretty nuts. Gives the President the authority to deport people based on “country of origin” regardless of citizenship or green card status. It’s obviously unconstitutional but it is still on the books and you’d be dependent on the SCOTUS and/or Trump respecting a SCOTUS decision.

He’s stupid and a narcissist. He cares about his image first and foremost, and he thinks this makes him look bad, so he pays to squash it, even if there is no electoral benefit.
More likely he just wants a “win.” He tried to get away with not actually paying her before.
