College Football 2024: Hail to the Cheaters

Definitely, and they made sense geographically. Easier road trips for non-revenue generating sports, and fans could drive to most away games.

Breaking up traditional rivalries also sucks.

UNLV qb situation is pretty interesting. gonna be a lot of mud throwing about it.

he’s saying the school didnt meet the contract, they are hinting that he demanded more money and there may be another school poaching him.

Conferences and sports are basically equivalent to streaming services. You want to have a large footprint, but not all of it so you can all get max revenue as a whole. Each incremental add moves the needle less and less. This way each conference (or league) can sell their package to a different provider and they all each get a piece of that fan. And each provider just gets equilibrium at one or two. Once you have the SEC you’re not getting that many incremental users by adding the B10 vs a company who doesn’t have any conference, so you bid less. So toxic.

this would never work because of a million reasons, but if we lived in a world with for example teleportation, then the CFB season should just be one long tournament. This year there are 134 D1 football programs. That’s perfect. We could put the top 128 of them into one bracket and play a tournament that goes the last seven weeks of the season.

The beginning of the season would just be just 4-5 weeks of awesome non-tournament football where we try to schedule competitive games and rivalry games for everyone to better dial in the seeding

Then sometime in October we have the ultimate Selection Show, where every team in the country gets a seed. They won’t be perfect but it’s such a big bracket that the mistakes get diluted

Losing teams aren’t eliminated, they just get rerouted into losers brackets. By the end of the seven weeks, every single CFB team ends their season at a specific finishing place, i.e. not only is Alabama playing an Ohio state university in the championship, but Navy is playing Nebraska to see who finishes 83rd or 84th. No more conferences and no NCAA, they’ve killed enough golden geese for this lifetime

it’s never gonna happen but for casual college football fans like me it would be an epic spectacle. And the rhythm is good too because the season starts with a month of bangers, and then as the highest seeds get to play easy games for a month, the teams in the middle are in evenly matched bloodbaths playing to survive. Also there’s no way that Notre Dame isn’t going to lose some year on Halloween to the #112 seeded Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and that game alone would make everything worth it

I like this idea, but we should throw in Division 2-3 as well to get a 512 team field.

Apparently the MWC was using/planning on using the poaching penalty fees to convince their current teams to stay, so by putting those fees into question via the lawsuit the Pac 12 might increase the likelihood of nabbing UNLV.

i like the dude, good for him. getting a lot of hate for “quitting on his teammates”, but if your job offered you a $100k salary, paid you $12k and then said you gotta work for free, how about no.

that they’re 3-0 and one of the contenders to get the 12th playoff spot is even sweeter. and who the fuck will ever transfer there now?

way to ruin yourselves for $88k

terrible look for UNLV, that’s such a small amount of money for a D1 program to pay to their star QB

but also he should not have declared until he got something down in writing.
